Flyting is a traditional Viking form of competitive, insult-laden poetry. In Assassin's Creed Valhalla, these verbal duels are a fun way to test Eivor's wit and charm, offering rewards such as increased silver and, more importantly, a boost to Eivor's Charisma, which can unlock new dialogue options and influence outcomes in certain quests.
Flyting encounters are initiated by speaking to specific NPCs who challenge Eivor to a bout. These individuals are often found in taverns, settlements, or sometimes even encountered during your travels. Each flyting match consists of three rounds, and Eivor must choose the most appropriate and cutting response from a selection of three options to win each round.
The key to winning a flyting match is to understand the context of the opponent's insult and to select a reply that is equally sharp, clever, and thematically relevant. Often, the best responses will rhyme or play on words related to the opponent's initial statement. Paying attention to the tone and subject matter of their insults is crucial.
For example, if an opponent boasts about their strength, a good response might be to mock their perceived lack of intelligence or to question the true source of their power. Conversely, if they insult Eivor's lineage or prowess, a fitting reply could be to highlight their own shortcomings or to assert Eivor's undeniable superiority.
Successfully winning all three rounds of a flyting match against an opponent will not only grant you the rewards but also impress them, potentially opening up new opportunities or strengthening your reputation within the community. Failing a round or the entire match will result in a loss of silver and no Charisma gain, so choose your words wisely.
