Starting the Quest: Meeting Soma
Your journey into Grantebridgescire begins shortly after arriving in England and establishing your settlement at Ravensthorpe. Speak with Randvi in your longhouse to pledge your allegiance to Grantebridgescire on the Alliance Map. This will trigger the quest "The Song of Soma" and mark your destination on the world map. Travel east to the region, and you'll find Soma and her remaining loyalists holed up in a hidden camp near the town of Grantebridge. Approach the camp, and a cutscene will initiate, introducing you to Soma and her plight. She will explain that her longhouse has been overrun by Wigmund's forces and that she suspects a traitor within her inner circle.
Investigating the Betrayal
Soma will task you with investigating three of her most trusted advisors: Birna, Lif, and Galinn. Each has a different story and a different alibi, and it's up to Eivor to discern the truth. This is a critical juncture, as accusing the wrong person will have lasting consequences for Soma and her clan. You'll need to visit three distinct locations to gather clues:
- Birna's Location: Head to the nearby swampy area where Birna was last seen. Look for ss of a struggle, tracks, and any discarded items. You'll find her fighting off some of Wigmund's men. Help her, and she'll explain her absence.
- Lif's Location: Lif, the shipwright, can be found near a small dock or riverbank. Investigate the area around his workshop for any unusual activity or clues related to sabotage. He'll be working on a damaged longship.
- Galinn's Location: Galinn, the warrior, will be found in a more isolated, often elevated, position. Look for ss of him observing enemy movements or acting suspiciously. He'll be meditating or scouting.
Pay close attention to dialogue and environmental clues. The traitor will have left a distinct trail. For example, look for yellow paint on a specific object or a particular type of discarded item that points to one of the advisors. Once you've gathered all the evidence, return to Soma to present your findings.
Reclaiming Grantebridge Longhouse
After you've identified the traitor (or made your best guess), Soma will rally her forces, and you will lead an assault on Grantebridge Longhouse. This is a straightforward siege mission:
- Breaching the Defenses: Use your bow to take out archers on the walls and then use your ram to break through the main gate.
- Clearing the Courtyard: Engage the enemy soldiers in the courtyard. Prioritize elite enemies and those with shields.
- Entering the Longhouse: Once the courtyard is clear, force open the longhouse doors.
- Defeating Wigmund: Inside, you'll face Wigmund and his remaining guards. Wigmund is a relatively easy boss fight; focus on parrying his attacks and exploiting openings.
Once Wigmund is defeated, Soma will reclaim her longhouse. A final cutscene will play where you reveal the traitor. The consequences of your choice will unfold here, affecting Soma's trust and potentially the availability of an ally for your Raven Clan.
The Traitor's Identity (Spoiler Warning)
If you wish to know the correct traitor without further investigation, it is Galinn. His erratic behavior, the yellow paint on the longship, and his suspicious alibi all point to him. Accusing Galinn will lead to the most favorable outcome for Soma and will allow Birna to join your Raven Clan as a Jomsvikingr, a valuable asset for your raiding party.
