Garnier de Naplouse, encountered in the infirmary of Acre, is a more challenging Templar who introduces the concept of environmental hazards and a more aggressive combat style. Garnier wields a large mace, delivering powerful, sweeping attacks that have a considerable area of effect. His primary offensive pattern involves a series of wide swings, followed by a devastating overhead smash. The key to this fight is recognizing the telegraphs for his heavy attacks and utilizing the Dodge mechanic effectively. Dodging to the side is generally the safest option against his sweeping attacks.
The infirmary itself is a critical element of this boss fight. Scattered throughout the room are braziers and flammable materials. Garnier's mace attacks can ite these, creating temporary fire hazards on the ground. Standing in these flames will inflict continuous damage. Therefore, maintaining spatial awareness and avoiding these burning patches is paramount. Furthermore, Garnier has a tendency to charge at Altaïr, attempting to close the distance quickly. This charge can be interrupted with a well-timed Throwing Knife or a swift Parry, leaving him vulnerable for a short period. When he is staggered, aim for 2-3 quick strikes with the Hidden Blade before retreating.
A common mistake is to stand too close to Garnier for too long, making it difficult to react to his wide swings. It is beneficial to maintain a medium distance, allowing ample time to react to his attacks and dodge. The Smoke Bomb ability can be incredibly useful here. Deploying a Smoke Bomb when Garnier is about to unleash a heavy attack can provide a window to escape the immediate danger or to reposition yourself safely. Once the smoke clears, you can often get in a few hits before he recovers. Remember that Garnier's health bar is substantial, so this fight requires sustained focus and a methodical approach. Prioritize survival and capitalize on every opening he provides, rather than rushing in recklessly. Successfully completing this encounter will reward you with a piece of the Templar armor set.
