Standard guards form the backbone of most enemy patrols and encampments across the various Assassin's Creed titles. These individuals, often clad in the attire of the era's military or law enforcement, are typically armed with swords, daggers, or spears. Their patrol routes are usually predictable, making them prime targets for stealth takedowns. A common mistake is engaging them head-on without proper preparation, as while individually they may not pose a sificant threat, a group can quickly overwhelm an unprepared Assassin. For instance, in Assassin's Creed Valhalla, the Saxon Soldiers found guarding forts like Ravensburg are susceptible to a well-timed Hidden Blade assassination from behind. Their detection radius is moderate, and they will investigate suspicious noises or sights, but they are not exceptionally perceptive. A key strategy is to utilize environmental distractions, such as throwing a Rook's Call distraction or breaking a nearby pottery to draw their attention away from your intended path. When alerted, they will often call out to nearby allies, escalating the situation rapidly. Their combat style is generally straightforward, involving basic melee attacks and parry opportunities. Learning their attack patterns, which often consist of a few swings followed by a brief pause, is crucial for successful parries and counter-attacks. A successful parry against a standard guard in Assassin's Creed Odyssey can open them up for a devastating combo, often ending with a lethal blow from your weapon.
