While seemingly weak, High Card strategies are among the most consistent and powerful late-game builds in Balatro. Because High Card only requires a single card to play, these builds allow you to keep your best utility cards (like Steel or Gold cards) in your hand for passive bonuses while still triggering "on scored" Joker effects. The goal is to ignore the base hand value and instead rely on powerful scaling Jokers and high-level Poker Hand bonuses to generate millions of chips.

Key Components for High Card Builds:

  • Essential Jokers:
    • Scaling Multipliers: Blueprint and Brainstorm (to copy your best effects), Constellation (scales with Planet cards), and Green Joker or Ride the Bus (scale every time you play a High Card).
    • Flat Chips/Mult: Stuntman (+250 Chips) compensates for High Card's low base chips. Shoot the Moon (+13 Mult for every Queen in hand) and Baron (x1.5 Mult for every King in hand) are the "gold standard" for this build.
