Party Composition & Synergy

Effective party composition and synergy are crucial for success in Baldur's Gate 3. Understanding the roles of different characters and how they interact can turn the tide of battle. The game's narrative begins with an intense cinematic featuring Mindflayers and Githyanki, highlighting the importance of strategic alliances and understanding your companions' backgrounds.

Mindflayers reproduce by infecting other races with tadpoles, eventually converting hosts into new Mindflayers. They are also known for their psionic powers. The Githyanki, a race once enslaved by Mindflayers, despise them and seek their annihilation. They ride Red Dragons as mounts, a pact made with the deity Tiamat. These lore elements can influence how certain companions interact or contribute to your party's overall strategy.

During the prologue, you may encounter opportunities to gain temporary allies or followers. For example, if you spare a brain, it might offer to join you. You can directly control the movement and actions of these allies by clicking on their character portrait. When interacting with such potential followers, dialogue options include:

"You should travel with me. Our odds are better together."
"I need to get moving, but you can shelter at my camp."
"I've wasted enough time here. Farewell."

Choosing to have them travel with you can significantly impact your party's synergy, adding new abilities and tactical options.
