Gale is a potential Human Wizard companion in Baldur's Gate 3, encountered shortly after the Nautiloid crash. To recruit him, you must successfully pull him from a portal. This requires passing a skill check using either a Strength check to grab and pull his hand or a Warlock-specific Charisma check to attune to the sigil's magic and bid it to quiet down. Failing these checks or choosing to leave him will prevent his recruitment.

Recruiting Gale

After the Nautiloid crash, you will find a hand protruding from a purple sigil. Interacting with it presents several options:

  • Who are you?
  • Slap the hand.
  • [STRENGTH] Grab the hand and pull.
  • [WARLOCK] [CHARISMA] Attune yourself to the sigil's magic, then bid it to quiet down.
  • It's far too dangerous. Leave him to his fate.

The first two options have no significant impact. To recruit Gale, you must choose either the third or fourth option and succeed in the associated skill check. If successful, he will introduce himself as Gale, a Human Wizard, and a potential companion.

First Conversation with Gale

Upon his introduction, Gale will mention remembering you from the Nautiloid. Your dialogue options are:

  1. I was, yes.
  2. Never mind the nautiloid. How did you get stuck in that stone?
  3. You don't trust this man. Draw your weapon.

Choosing the first option leads to a discussion about the parasite. He will assume you were also infected. You can then choose to extend the conversation or end it:

  • Go on...
  • Couldn't have phrased it more repellently myself.
  • That's hardly any of your business.

Selecting "Go on..." reveals that the process you and your companions are undergoing is called Ceremorphosis, which will eventually transform you into Mind Flayers. He will then ask if you are a cleric, offering these responses:

  • I was going to ask you the same question.
  • Can't say that I am.
  • [WARLOCK] My patron offers me many gifts, but tadpole extraction is not one of them. I can't cure our parasites.

Choosing the Warlock option will prompt him to continue speaking.
