Maps & Locations
Navigating the vast and perilous world of Baldur's Gate 3 is crucial for survival and success. This section provides detailed walkthrough steps, essential item locations, and strategic advice for key areas you'll encounter. Remember to always explore thoroughly, as hidden paths and valuable loot often lie off the beaten path.
Act 1: The Ravaged Beach & Environs
Your journey begins on the wreckage of the Nautiloid. This initial area, while seemingly straightforward, holds vital early-game resources and introduces key mechanics.
- The Ravaged Beach:
- Objective: Locate survivors and a way off the beach.
- Walkthrough:
- After the crash, follow the path east. You'll encounter Shadowheart trapped in a pod. Use the Rune of the Nautiloid (found on a dead Mind Flayer near the pod) to attempt to free her. If successful, she joins your party.
- Continue along the beach. Look for a Heavy Chest partially buried in the sand near a broken ship mast; it often contains a Potion of Healing and some gold.
- Head north-east to find the Overgrown Ruins entrance. Before entering, check the surrounding area for a Slightly Ajar Chest containing minor loot.
- Key Items:
- Rune of the Nautiloid: Essential for freeing Shadowheart.
- Broken Sword: Found on a dead intellect devourer, a decent early-game weapon for martial classes.
- Overgrown Ruins:
- Objective: Discover the secrets within and find a way to the wider world.
- Walkthrough:
- Upon entering, you'll likely encounter a group of looters. Engage them carefully; using the high ground or stealth can give you an advantage.
- Inside the main chamber, a puzzle involving a Ancient Door awaits. The lever to open it is often hidden or requires a successful Perception check to spot. Alternatively, a hidden passage can be found by destroying a cracked wall (requires a strong character or explosives).
- Beyond the door, you'll face Gale (if you haven't already) or a more direct path to the Crypt.
- Key Items:
- Amulet of Lost Voices: Found in the sarcophagus within the Crypt, allowing communication with the dead. Crucial for certain quests.
- Soul Coin: Often found in hidden nooks or on defeated enemies. Save these for specific interactions later in the game.
- Strategy: Be wary of traps within the ruins. Use characters with high Dexterity and Perception to disarm them or spot them before triggering.
Act 1: The Druid Grove & Emerald Grove
A vital hub for early-game quests and companions, the Druid Grove is often the first major settlement you'll encounter. Its internal politics and surrounding dangers offer numerous opportunities.
- The Road to the Grove:
- Objective: Reach the safety of the Grove.
- Walkthrough:
- From the Overgrown Ruins, head north-west. You'll likely stumble upon a conflict between Tieflings and Goblins at the entrance to the Grove.
- Participate in the battle. Focusing fire on the Goblin leaders can quickly turn the tide.
- After the battle, you'll be granted entry to the Emerald Grove.
- Key Items:
- Splint Mail: Can be looted from some defeated Goblins, a good early heavy armor.
- Emerald Grove:
- Objective: Recruit companions, gather information, and complete initial quests.
- Walkthrough:
- Speak with Zevlor at the entrance to understand the Tiefling's plight.
- Explore the various vendors: Arron (general goods) and Damon (blacksmith) are key.
- Locate Lae'zel (if not already recruited) and Astarion within the Grove. Their personal quests often begin here.
- Enter the Inner Sanctum to speak with Kagha and learn about the Rite of Thorns. This is a critical questline.
- Key Items:
- Sussur Bloom: Found in the Underdark, but often a quest item from the Grove. Useful for silencing magic users.
- Ring of Protection: Can be obtained through specific quest outcomes or trade.
- Strategy: The Grove is a safe zone, but your choices here have lasting consequences. Consider the implications of siding with the Tieflings or the Druids.
