Thieves' Guild Quests

For those who walk in shadows, the Thieves' Guild offers a unique path to power and influence in Athkatla. Upon reaching Chapter 2 and accumulating 20,000 gold, you'll be approached by a mysterious figure who invites you to join the Shadow Thieves. Accepting their offer opens up a series of lucrative and challenging quests, ultimately leading to your own Thieves' Stronghold.

Joining the Shadow Thieves

Once you have the required gold, a Shadow Thief will approach you in the Government District or the Slums. They will offer you membership in the guild. Agree to their terms and you'll be directed to the Shadow Thieves' Guildhall, located in the Docks District. Speak with Arkanis Gath inside to formally begin your career as a Shadow Thief.

Shadow Thieves' Stronghold Quests

These quests are exclusive to characters with thief-class proficiencies (Thief, Assassin, Bounty Hunter, Swashbuckler, or multi-class/dual-class with Thief). Completing them will establish you as the leader of the Shadow Thieves.

Quest 1: The Mae'Var Debacle

Your first major task is to investigate Mae'Var, a rogue guild leader suspected of disloyalty. Arkanis Gath will instruct you to infiltrate Mae'Var's Guildhall in the Docks District.

  • Objective: Gain Mae'Var's trust and uncover his treachery.
  • Steps:
    1. Head to Mae'Var's Guildhall in the Docks District.
    2. Speak with Mae'Var, who will immediately give you a task to prove your loyalty.
    3. Task 1: Steal the Necklace: Mae'Var wants you to steal a valuable necklace from the home of a merchant named Rayic Gethras.
      • Locate Rayic Gethras's house in the Temple District.
      • The house is heavily trapped and guarded by several Golems (Stone, Clay, Iron). A party with strong melee and magical attacks is recommended.
      • The necklace is found in a locked chest on the upper floor. Use your thief skills to disarm traps and pick locks.
      • Return the necklace to Mae'Var.
    4. Task 2: Assassinate Embarl: Mae'Var will then order you to kill a competing thief, Embarl, who operates in the Sea's Bounty Tavern in the Docks District.
      • Go to the Sea's Bounty Tavern.
      • Embarl is usually found on the upper floor. Engage him in combat. He's not particularly tough, but may have a few thugs with him.
      • Report back to Mae'Var after eliminating Embarl.
    5. Task 3: Retrieve the Information: Mae'Var's final test involves retrieving a scroll from the High Priestess of the Temple of Talos in the Temple District.
      • Enter the Temple of Talos.
      • The High Priestess is located within the temple. You can either pickpocket the scroll from her (requires high Pick Pockets skill) or engage her and her guards in combat to retrieve it from her body.
      • Deliver the scroll to Mae'Var.
    6. Uncovering the Truth: After completing these tasks, Mae'Var will fully trust you. He will reveal his plans to betray the Shadow Thieves. At this point, you have enough evidence.
    7. Return to Arkanis Gath in the Shadow Thieves' Guildhall and report Mae'Var's treachery.
  • Reward: Experience points, gold, and the next stage of the stronghold quest.

Quest 2: Eliminating Mae'Var

With Mae'Var's betrayal confirmed, Arkanis Gath will task you with eliminating him and his loyalists.

  • Objective: Kill Mae'Var and secure his guildhall.
  • Steps:
    1. Return to Mae'Var's Guildhall in the Docks District.
    2. Confront Mae'Var. He will attack you along with his remaining thugs and mages. This can be a challenging fight, so prepare with buffs and crowd control spells. Focus fire on Mae'Var first to reduce the number of enemies quickly.
    3. After defeating Mae'Var, loot his body for the Mae'Var's Key and other valuable items.
    4. Explore the guildhall to eliminate any remaining resistance.
    5. Report back to Arkanis Gath.
  • Reward: Significant experience points, gold, and the Shadow Thieves' Guildhall becomes your stronghold.

Thieves' Stronghold Management

Once you've secured the guildhall, you'll gain access to your Thieves' Stronghold. This comes with new responsibilities and opportunities.

  • Income: You will regularly receive income from the guild's operations. Speak to the guild treasurer (usually located within the guildhall) to collect your earnings.
  • Guild Tasks: From time to time, your subordinates will approach you with various tasks, such as resolving disputes, dealing with rival gangs, or performing special heists. These are usually optional but offer additional experience and gold.
  • Special Items: The guildhall often contains hidden stashes or merchants who sell unique thief-specific items, such as improved lockpicks, trap components, or specialized poisons.
  • Training: Some members of your guild may offer training in thief skills for a fee.

Managing your stronghold effectively will enhance your reputation and wealth throughout Athkatla.
