The Distillery

The Distillery is your hub for consuming Spirits, which grant passive buffs to the Kid. You'll unlock the Distillery after completing the "Wall of Spears" level. Each Spirit costs a certain amount of Fragments to equip, and you can equip up to ten Spirits at a time, provided you have enough Fragments to cover their combined cost. Experiment with different Spirit combinations to find what best suits your playstyle and the challenges ahead!

Unlocking Spirits

Spirits are acquired in various ways throughout your journey. Keep an eye out for them in these locations:

  • Story Progression: Many Spirits are automatically unlocked as you complete key story missions.
  • Hidden Areas: Some levels contain secret paths or breakable objects that reveal hidden Spirits. Explore thoroughly!
  • The Lost And Found: After certain events, new Spirits may appear for purchase or simply become available at the Lost And Found in the Bastion.
  • Dream Levels: Completing various Dream levels (accessed via the Monument) can also reward you with powerful Spirits.

Spirit Tiers and Costs

Spirits come in different tiers, indicated by their Fragment cost. Generally, higher-tier Spirits offer more significant benefits but demand a higher Fragment investment. Here's a breakdown of common Spirit costs:

  • Tier 1 (1-2 Fragments): These are basic buffs, often increasing a single stat slightly or providing a minor utility. Examples include Whale Ale (increased health) or Black Tonic (increased damage).
  • Tier 2 (3-5 Fragments): More potent than Tier 1, these Spirits offer moderate boosts or more specialized effects. Consider Bull Brandy (chance to stun on hit) or Doppelganger Draft (summons a decoy on dodge).
  • Tier 3 (6-10 Fragments): The most powerful Spirits, often providing substantial advantages or unique abilities. Look for Lifewine (health regeneration) or Werewhiskey (increased critical hit chance and damage).

Recommended Spirit Combinations

While personal preference plays a huge role, here are some effective Spirit combinations for different playstyles:

Aggressive Melee Build:

  • Black Tonic: Flat damage increase for all attacks.
  • Werewhiskey: Significant boost to critical hit chance and damage, especially effective with fast-hitting melee weapons like the Cael Hammer or War Machete.
  • Bull Brandy: Adds a chance to stun enemies, creating openings for more attacks.
  • Dreadrum: Increases movement speed, allowing you to close distances quickly and dodge incoming attacks.

Ranged Specialist Build:

  • Squirt Cider: Increases projectile speed, making it easier to hit moving targets with the Repeater or Bow.
  • Leechade: Grants health on hit, providing sustain during ranged engagements.
  • Ghost Grog: Increases the chance for projectiles to pierce through enemies, excellent for crowd control with the Mortar or Musket.
  • Doppelganger Draft: Creates a decoy when you dodge, drawing enemy fire and giving you time to reposition and fire.

Defensive/Survival Build:

  • Whale Ale: Increases maximum health, making you more resilient to damage.
  • Lifewine: Provides passive health regeneration, crucial for sustained fights.
