High-Threat Campaign Encounters

Battlefield 4 lacks traditional health-bar bosses, but its campaign features several "apex encounters"—high-intensity scenarios involving heavy armor or fortified positions that require specific tactics to survive. Below are the most challenging encounters and strategies to overcome them.

The Baku Construction Site (Heli Pursuit)

At the end of the first mission, you are pursued by a persistent attack helicopter while fleeing in a civilian vehicle. This functions as a scripted pursuit boss.

  • The Strategy: Do not waste primary ammo on the hull. Wait for the scripted moment when you are given the M32 MGL (Grenade Launcher). You must land three direct hits on the cockpit area to trigger the final cutscene. Focus on lead-aiming the shots as the helicopter maneuvers.

The Shanghai Tank Ambush

During "Fishing in Baku," you encounter a T-92 main battle tank in a narrow corridor. This is the game's first major armored threat where infantry weapons are useless.

  • The Strategy: Do not engage from the front. Use the alleyways to the left to flank. Locate the C4 or RPGs found in nearby weapon crates. Two C4 charges to the rear or side armor will disable the tank instantly. Avoid the main cannon's line of sight by staying inside buildings.

The South China Sea Carrier Defense

This encounter features overwhelming waves of infantry supported by fast-moving attack boats while you are trapped on the deck of a sinking carrier.

  • The Strategy: Prioritize the enemy RPG troopers on the distant wreckage first. Use the Gadget Stash to equip a sniper rifle or a high-magnification optic. For the attack boats, use the mounted Kornet launchers located on the deck edges; guide the missiles manually to the hull for a one-hit kill.

The Tashgar Dam Defense

This is a marathon encounter against multiple BTRs (armored personnel carriers) and a massive influx of Russian ground forces.

  • The Strategy: High ground is your best asset. Stay atop the dam's scaffolding. Use the M224 Mortar (if unlocked) or locate the FGM-172 SRAW in the central crates. The SRAW is essential here as it allows you to fire and guide missiles around cover to hit the BTRs' weak rear armor without exposing yourself to their 30mm cannons.
