Chapter 2: All Ghillied Up
Welcome, soldier, to "All Ghillied Up," a critical chapter that demands stealth, precision, and tactical ingenuity. This mission plunges you deep into a heavily fortified German research facility nestled within the treacherous Norwegian mountains. Your objective: infiltrate, sabotage vital equipment, and extract without raising the alarm. While direct confrontation is an option, a ghost-like approach will yield the best results and preserve precious resources. Prepare for a challenging but rewarding experience.
Mission Overview & Recommended Loadout
This chapter emphasizes stealth and environmental manipulation. Your primary weapon should be suppressed, and a secondary sidearm for emergencies is advisable. Consider the following:
- Primary Weapon: Kar98k with a 6x scope and suppressor. Ideal for long-range stealth takedowns.
- Secondary Weapon: P38 Pistol with suppressor. Excellent for close-quarters stealth or as a backup.
- Gadgets: Throwing Knives (silent takedowns), Spotting Scope (reconnaissance), Smoke Grenades (escape/distraction).
- Melee: Bayonet or Combat Knife. Essential for silent melee takedowns.
Key Abilities: use your character's ability to ski for rapid, silent traversal across snowy terrain. Environmental hazards like avalanches and ice breaks are your allies.
Phase 1: Approach to the Facility
You begin high in the mountains, overlooking the facility. Your initial task is to reach the perimeter undetected.
- Initial Descent: Immediately equip your skis. Follow the marked path, using the natural terrain and sparse tree cover for concealment. Avoid open areas where you might be spotted by distant patrols.
- Patrol Route Observation: As you approach the first cluster of buildings, stop and use your Spotting Scope. Observe the patrol routes of the two guards near the main gate. One typically patrols a short loop, while the other remains stationary near a watchtower.
- Silent Takedown (Optional): If you choose to eliminate them, wait for the patrolling guard to move away from the stationary one. Use a suppressed headshot on the stationary guard, then quickly move to intercept the patrolling guard for a silent melee takedown or another suppressed shot. Hide bodies in snowdrifts or behind structures.
- Perimeter Breach: Instead of the main gate, look for a broken section of the fence or a less-guarded side entrance to the east. This often involves a short climb over a snowbank.
Phase 2: Infiltrating the Outer Compound
The outer compound contains several small barracks and storage sheds. Your goal is to reach the main research building.
- Barracks Patrols: Two to three guards patrol this area. One often takes a smoke break near a barrel fire. Use the barracks buildings and snow piles for cover.
- Ventilation Shaft Entry (Recommended): To bypass most of the outer compound, head towards the large, two-story building on the north side. Look for a small, accessible ventilation shaft on the ground level, usually indicated by a faint light or a slightly ajar grate. This leads directly into the main facility's lower levels.
- Alternative Entry (Main Door): If the ventilation shaft is missed, the main entrance to the research building is heavily guarded. You'll need to eliminate at least two guards and potentially disable a security camera. This route is riskier and can easily lead to detection.
Phase 3: Sabotage in the Research Facility
Inside the main facility, your objectives are to sabotage three key pieces of equipment. The facility is multi-leveled with labs, offices, and a central reactor core.
- Objective 1: Communications Array (Upper Level)
- Location: Located on the second floor, in a room overlooking the central atrium.
- Approach: Use the stairwells or maintenance ladders. Be wary of guards patrolling the corridors. There's often a lone technician working near the array.
- Sabotage: Interact with the main console. This will trigger a short animation. Be prepared for a guard to investigate the noise if you're not quick.
- Objective 2: Fuel Rod Control (Lower Level)
- Location: Deep within the facility, near the reactor core on the lowest level.
- Approach: Navigate through the lab areas. Expect two guards patrolling the corridor leading to the control room. One often pauses to examine equipment.
- Sabotage: Locate the large lever or console marked for "Fuel Rod Control." Activating it will cause a brief power surge.
- Objective 3: Data Servers (Server Room)
- Location: A dedicated server room, typically on the ground floor, accessible via a reinforced door.
- Approach: This room is often guarded by a single, stationary guard. A well-placed throwing knife or suppressed headshot is ideal.
- Sabotage: Interact with the glowing server rack. This will initiate a data wipe.
Common Pitfalls & Tips for Sabotage Phase:
- Camera Awareness: Several security cameras are strategically placed. Use your Spotting Scope to identify them and either avoid their cones of vision or shoot them out with a suppressed weapon.
- Environmental Takedowns: Look for opportunities to cause distractions or eliminate enemies using the environment. For example, shooting a loose pipe to create a steam vent, or knocking over a stack of crates.
- Body Hiding: Always hide bodies in lockers, behind equipment, or in dark corners to prevent detection.
- Alarm Protocol: If detected, alarms will sound, and reinforcements will flood the area. Your best bet is to find cover, eliminate immediate threats, and then attempt to re-establish stealth or escape.
Phase 4: Extraction
Once all sabotage objectives are complete, your extraction point will be marked on your HUD. This typically involves returning to the snowy exterior.
- Exit Strategy: The fastest exit is often through a maintenance tunnel or a less-guarded back exit that leads directly to the mountain slopes. Avoid retracing your entry path if it was heavily guarded.
- Ski Escape: Once outside, immediately equip your skis. The Germans will be on high alert. Use the downhill slopes to your advantage, gaining speed and making yourself a difficult target.
- Environmental Hazards (Avalanche/Ice Break): As you ski, look for marked environmental hazards. Shooting specific ice formations can cause an avalanche, wiping out pursuing enemies. Similarly, shooting weak ice patches can cause enemies to fall through. These are excellent tools for clearing your path.
- Final Rendezvous: Reach the designated extraction zone to complete the chapter.
Collectibles & Secrets
While "All Ghillied Up" is primarily a mission-focused chapter, there are a few hidden items that reward exploration:
- Letter from Home (1/3): In the outer compound, inside the second barracks building (the one furthest from the main gate), on a small desk.
- German Propaganda Poster (1/1): Inside the main research facility, on the ground floor, in the corridor leading to the server room. It's usually on a wall near a fire extinguisher.
- Unique Weapon Part (1/1): After sabotaging the Fuel Rod Control, search the adjacent lab. A small, glowing component can be found on a workbench, which unlocks a cosmetic upgrade for the Kar98k.
Mastering "All Ghillied Up" requires patience, observation, and adaptability. Embrace the stealth mechanics, use the environment, and you'll emerge victorious from this icy crucible.
