Chapter 3: Heavy Metal
Welcome to "Heavy Metal," a chapter that throws you into the heart of intense urban warfare and culminates in a thrilling tank engagement. This guide will provide a comprehensive, step-by-step walkthrough to ensure your success, covering everything from stealthy escapes to devastating tank tactics. Prepare for a challenging but rewarding experience as you navigate treacherous streets and command powerful armored vehicles.
Part 1: The Daring Escape - From the Sewers to the Streets
Your mission begins immediately after planting the explosives in the previous objective. The alarm will sound, and enemy forces will converge on your position. Your primary goal is to escape the building and reach the designated rendezvous point where your tank awaits.
Objective: Escape the Building
- Initial Engagement & Exit Strategy:
- After the explosion, several German soldiers will rush your position. Immediately take cover behind the crates or machinery near the planted explosives.
- Prioritize enemies with submachine guns (MP40s) as they pose the most immediate threat in close quarters. Use your primary weapon (e.g., Sturmgewehr 1-5) for accuracy.
- Look for the marked exit door, usually located on the opposite side of the room from where you planted the explosives. It will often be slightly ajar or clearly indicated by the objective marker.
- Escape Route 1 (Stealthy): If possible, use smoke grenades (if you have them) to obscure enemy vision and sprint directly for the exit. This minimizes direct combat.
- Escape Route 2 (Aggressive): Clear the immediate room of enemies. Be aware of flanking enemies from side corridors. Once the room is clear, proceed through the marked door.
- Navigating the Corridors:
- The corridors leading out of the building are narrow and often heavily patrolled. Expect at least 3-5 German soldiers in the first hallway.
- use cover effectively – doorways, overturned furniture, and wall corners. Peek and shoot to conserve health.
- Anti-Tank Weapon Acquisition: As you progress through the building, keep an eye out for anti-tank weapons. These are crucial for the upcoming tank battle.
- Location 1: In a small storage room off the main corridor, usually near a stack of wooden crates. You can often find a Panzerfaust (1-2 shots) here.
- Location 2: On a workbench in a workshop area, typically guarded by 2-3 soldiers. A PIAT (1-2 shots) is often present.
- Recommendation: Always pick up anti-tank weapons, even if you have to swap out a less critical gadget. They are invaluable.
- Enemy Types: You'll primarily encounter standard German infantry (Riflemen, Assaults). Occasionally, a Support soldier with an MG42 might be positioned to suppress your advance. Prioritize these heavy weapon users.
- Reaching the Street Level:
- The final stretch involves ascending a staircase or ramp to reach the street. This area is often a choke point.
- Expect a final wave of resistance before exiting. Use grenades to clear out clustered enemies.
- Once you breach the street, immediately look for cover. The area will be under heavy fire.
Collectible Alert:
Keep an eye out for Letters or Mementos. In this section, a common location for a collectible is:
- Collectible 1: On a desk in a small office room adjacent to the first long corridor after the initial escape. It's often tucked away behind some files.
- Collectible 2: Near a destroyed vehicle or sandbags just as you exit the building onto the street, usually slightly off the main path.
Part 2: Commandeering the Beast - The Tank Battle
Once you've successfully escaped the building and reached the designated area, you'll find your allied tank waiting. This is where the real "Heavy Metal" begins.
Objective: Secure the Tank & Destroy Enemy Armor
- Entering Your Tank:
- Locate the friendly Sherman tank (or equivalent, depending on the war story). Approach it and press the interaction key/button to enter.
- Important: Before entering, ensure you have full health and any anti-tank weapons you picked up are reloaded. You might need them if your tank is disabled.
- Initial Engagement - Anti-Tank Emplacements:
- Your first priority will be to eliminate enemy anti-tank emplacements (Pak 40s or similar) and infantry armed with Panzerfausts. These are often positioned in elevated positions or behind sandbagged defenses.
- Location 1: Two Pak 40s are typically positioned on the left side of the street, overlooking your spawn point. Use your main cannon to destroy them with 1-2 direct hits.
- Location 2: A cluster of infantry with anti-tank weapons will often be in a ruined building on the right. Use your coaxial machine gun to suppress and eliminate them, then follow up with a main cannon shell if they're too numerous.
- Engaging Enemy Tanks:
- The core of this section is destroying enemy tanks, primarily Panzer IVs and occasionally a Tiger.
- Prioritization: Always prioritize enemy tanks over infantry once the immediate anti-tank threat is neutralized.
- Weak Points:
- Rear Armor: The most vulnerable spot. Aim for the engine deck if possible.
- Side Armor: Less armored than the front, but still requires multiple hits.
- Turret Ring/Gun Mantlet: Can disable the enemy tank's main gun or even cause a critical hit.
- Tactics:
- Keep Moving: A stationary tank is an easy target. Continuously move, even if just slightly, to make it harder for enemies to hit your weak spots.
- Hull Down: Use terrain (hills, rubble) to expose only your turret, minimizing your profile.
- Smoke Discharger: Use your smoke discharger (usually 'C' on PC, L1+R1 on console) to break line of sight when you're taking heavy fire, need to reload, or want to reposition.
- Flanking: If possible, try to maneuver around enemy tanks to hit their weaker side or rear armor. This is especially effective against Tigers.
- Repair: If your tank takes significant damage, retreat to cover and initiate repairs (hold 'E' on PC, Square/X on console). You are vulnerable during repairs.
- Dealing with Infantry:
- While tanks are your primary concern, don't ignore infantry. They can disable your tracks or even plant explosives on your hull if they get too close.
- Use your coaxial machine gun to mow down infantry.
- If infantry are swarming, a main cannon shell into their midst can be devastating.
- Navigating the Urban Environment:
- The streets are littered with debris, ruined buildings, and potential ambush points.
- Be aware of enemies hiding in buildings. A well-placed main cannon shell can clear out a building.
- Use buildings for cover against incoming tank fire.
Recommended Loadout for Tank Battle (if dismounted):
While primarily in a tank, there might be moments you need to dismount or your tank is destroyed. Be prepared:
- Primary Weapon: Sturmgewehr 1-5 or M1 Garand (versatile for medium range).
- Secondary Weapon: P38 Pistol (for emergency close-quarters).
- Gadget 1: Panzerfaust or PIAT (essential for anti-tank).
- Gadget 2: Medkit Pouch (self-healing) or Smoke Grenades (for cover/escape).
Common Pitfalls & How to Avoid Them:
- Getting Flanked: Always be aware of your surroundings. Use your mini-map to track enemy tank icons.
- Ignoring Anti-Tank Infantry: These can quickly disable your tank, leaving you vulnerable. Prioritize them early.
- Staying Stationary: A static tank is a dead tank. Keep moving, even if it's just a few meters.
- Overextending: Don't rush too far ahead of potential cover or allied support. Engage enemies from a safe distance when possible.
- Forgetting Smoke: The smoke discharger is a lifesaver. Use it to reposition or escape when overwhelmed.
By following these detailed strategies and being mindful of your surroundings, you will successfully navigate the "Heavy Metal" chapter, proving your prowess both on foot and in the cockpit of a powerful war machine.
