Contraband and Illegal Items
Understanding what constitutes contraband and how to manage it is crucial for survival in Beholder: Conductor. Illegal items can be planted, found, or confiscated, and their presence can lead to severe penalties for tenants or yourself if discovered by the Ministry. Knowing the current list of prohibited items and their associated risks allows for strategic manipulation of the building's residents.
The Ministry regularly updates the list of illegal items. Always check the official Ministry directives posted in your apartment or delivered via mail. Common categories of contraband include:
- Foreign Currency: Any currency not issued by the State.
- Banned Books/Literature: Publications deemed subversive or anti-State.
- Drugs/Alcohol: Illicit substances or unapproved alcoholic beverages.
- Weapons: Firearms, knives, or other dangerous implements not sanctioned by the State.
- Propaganda: Materials promoting ideologies contrary to the State.
When you discover contraband, you have several options:
- Confiscate: Take the item for yourself. This carries a risk if you are searched.
- Report: Inform the Ministry about the tenant possessing the item. This can lead to their eviction or arrest, earning you Ministry reputation.
- Plant: Place the item in another tenant's apartment to frame them. This requires careful timing and observation to avoid detection.
- Ignore: Leave the item where it is. This is risky if the Ministry conducts a random search.
Be aware of the consequences of each action. Reporting earns Ministry favor but can decrease tenant loyalty. Confiscating can be profitable if you sell the items to the Black Market Dealer, but it puts you at personal risk.
