Planting Evidence
Planting evidence is a morally ambiguous but often necessary tactic in Beholder: Conductor to achieve Ministry objectives or to frame individuals. This involves strategically placing incriminating items within a tenant's apartment to make them appear guilty of a crime or violation. Success requires careful planning, timing, and a thorough understanding of what constitutes 'evidence' in the eyes of the Ministry.
Planting evidence is not a straightforward task. You need to acquire the items you intend to plant, which might be illegal contraband, forbidden literature, or even fabricated documents. These items can often be purchased from the black market or obtained through other means. Once acquired, you must wait for the opportune moment to enter the target's apartment undetected. This usually means waiting until they are asleep or away from their residence. The Ministry often provides specific directives on what kind of evidence they are looking for, so pay close attention to your mission briefings.
Steps for planting evidence:
- Acquire the evidence: Obtain the items you need. This could be through purchasing from the Black Market (e.g., 'Forbidden Pamphlets', 'Illegal Radio'), completing specific quests, or finding them in other apartments.
- Wait for an opportunity: The best time is when the tenant is asleep or out of their apartment. Use your surveillance to determine their schedule.
- Enter the apartment undetected: Use your lockpicks or wait for a key if necessary. Be mindful of patrols or other tenants who might see you.
- Place the evidence strategically: Hide it in a place where it is likely to be found during a search, such as a drawer, under the bed, or in a closet. Avoid placing it in plain sight unless the directive specifically requires it.
- Report the discovery: Once the evidence is planted, you can either wait for the Ministry to 'discover' it through your reports or trigger a raid by informing the authorities.
Important Considerations:
- Risk of Discovery: If you are caught planting evidence, you will face severe consequences.
- Tenant Reactions: If the tenant discovers the planted evidence before you can report it, they might become suspicious or even try to escape, complicating your mission.
- Ministry Directives: Always adhere to the specific instructions given by the Ministry regarding the type of evidence and the target.
Planting evidence is a powerful tool, but it comes with significant moral and practical risks. Use it judiciously and only when absolutely necessary to achieve your objectives.
