Opening
Welcome to the sunken city of Rapture, Delta! Your journey begins not with a bang, but with a somber awakening. This initial sequence serves as both a narrative introduction and a crucial tutorial for your Big Daddy abilities. Pay close attention to the environmental cues and audio logs, as they set the stage for the grim reality you're about to face.
The Submarine & First Steps
You'll awaken in a dilapidated submarine, disoriented and alone. Follow the on-screen prompts to regain control of Subject Delta. Your first objective is simple: escape the confines of your watery prison.
- Movement Tutorial: Practice basic movement (forward, backward, strafe) and looking around.
- Melee Attack: A Splicer will quickly confront you. Use your powerful drill for a devastating melee attack. Remember, the drill is your primary close-quarters weapon and can be charged for more damage.
- Environmental Interaction: Look for the glowing, interactive elements. You'll need to interact with a control panel to open the submarine hatch.
Emerging into the Depths
Once the hatch is open, you'll step out into the ocean floor. This is your first taste of the underwater exploration unique to BioShock 2. Don't worry about oxygen; your Big Daddy suit provides an endless supply.
- Underwater Navigation: Move along the seabed. You'll encounter some minor debris and the haunting remains of Rapture's past.
- Audio Log - "The Great Chain" by Andrew Ryan: Keep an eye out for your first Audio Log. It's usually found near the initial wreckage outside the submarine. These logs provide vital lore and context.
- First Encounter with a Little Sister: You'll soon spot a Little Sister accompanied by another Big Daddy. Observe their interaction; this is a key mechanic you'll be engaging with throughout the game.
The Siren's Call & Eleanor
A mysterious voice will begin to guide you, urging you forward. This is Eleanor Lamb, your former Little Sister, and her connection to you is paramount to the story.
- Following the Light: Eleanor will project a light beacon for you to follow. This often indicates the correct path forward in early sections.
- The First Vent: You'll come across a vent that requires a specific action to open. Use your drill to break through the obstruction.
- Entering the Facility: The path will lead you into a flooded section of a facility. Prepare for your first real combat encounters.
Initial Combat & Plasmid Acquisition
Inside the facility, you'll face your first Splicers. This is where you'll learn the basics of ranged combat and Plasmid usage.
- Weapon - Rivet Gun: You'll automatically equip the Rivet Gun. This is your standard firearm. Practice aiming and firing.
- Plasmid - Electro Bolt: Shortly after the first Splicer encounter, you'll acquire the Electro Bolt Plasmid. This allows you to stun enemies and interact with electrified objects.
- Strategy: Use Electro Bolt to stun Splicers, then follow up with Rivet Gun shots or a charged drill attack for efficient takedowns.
- Environmental Use: Look for opportunities to electrify water puddles to stun multiple enemies.
- Looting: Remember to loot fallen Splicers and containers for ammo, EVE Hypos (to replenish Plasmid energy), and health kits.
- Health Kit Location: A health kit is usually found on a table or shelf in the first room with Splicers.
Navigating the Flooded Corridors
Continue through the facility, utilizing your new abilities. The path is generally linear at this stage, but keep an eye out for hidden nooks.
- Vending Machines: You'll encounter your first "Gatherer's Garden" and "Circus of Values" vending machines. These are crucial for purchasing Plasmids, Tonics, ammo, and health. You won't have much money yet, but remember their locations.
- Security Camera: Be wary of your first Security Camera. If it spots you, it will trigger an alarm and send Security Bots after you. You can try to hack it (though you won't have the hacking tool yet) or simply avoid its gaze.
- Another Audio Log: Look for another Audio Log in one of the flooded offices or living quarters.
This opening section is designed to ease you into the mechanics and atmosphere of BioShock 2. Take your time, explore, and get comfortable with Subject Delta's unique abilities. The real challenges of Rapture lie just ahead!
