You'll need to acquire a Trade Manager NPC in a town to begin trading. Each town has its own set of trade goods, and their prices fluctuate based on various factors.
Trade Goods and Their Value
Trade goods are items that can only be bought and sold through Trade Managers. These goods are often produced by workers through the node system or by players through various life skills like farming or processing. The value of a trade good is determined by its rarity, the distance it's transported, and the current market demand. For example, a good produced in Velia might be more valuable when sold in Calpheon due to the distance and the demand for that specific item in the capital.
Trade Routes and Transportation
To effectively trade, you'll need to establish trade routes. This involves using your own character, a Trade Wagon, or a Trade Ship to transport goods. Each method has its pros and cons. Personal transport is slow but requires no initial investment. Trade Wagons offer more cargo space and speed but require purchasing or renting. Trade Ships are essential for long-distance sea trade. When transporting goods, be mindful of potential player-versus-player (PvP) encounters, especially in certain zones, as your goods can be looted if you are defeated.
Bartering: A Sea-faring Trade
Bartering is a more advanced form of trading that primarily takes place at sea. It involves exchanging specific goods with various Island NPCs scattered across the ocean. These NPCs will offer you a list of items they are looking for in exchange for their own unique wares. Successful bartering can yield highly valuable items, including rare crafting materials, powerful gear, and even special trade goods that can be sold for sificant amounts of silver. To engage in bartering, you'll need a well-upgraded Carrack or Galleass ship, as these vessels offer the best cargo capacity and speed for long bartering voyages.
