The Zone of Contamination presents a challenging environment, with key locations like Boss's Encampment and Forgotten Exploration offering unique opportunities and dangers. Boss's Encampment, a ruined series of buildings, is high in the mountains near Idle Camp. Forgotten Exploration is a mine situated between Turbulent Pasture and Harrowed Residence.

Boss's Encampment consists of 3 ruined buildings and an intact shed. While there is no real shelter within the settlement itself, Scaffolder's Hideout, a Warm Cave, is a short walk across a wooden bridge. This encampment was likely the headquarters for Dr. Rüdiger and/or the Langston Mine Foreman, possibly burned down to cover up events in the mine.

Forgotten Exploration offers a very warm interior, making it a good outdoor resting spot if you have a Bedroll. Resources such as Coal, Scrap Metal, Lockers, and Reclaimed Wood can be found inside the mine.
