Summoner (Lyn)
The Lyn Summoner is a versatile class in Blade & Soul, excelling in both damage dealing and support roles through their symbiotic relationship with their familiar, the Cat. This guide will walk you through optimizing your Summoner's potential, from early game progression to advanced combat strategies.
Early Game Progression (Levels 1-30)
Focus on questing and understanding your core abilities. Your Cat is your primary tank and damage dealer in the early stages.
- Skill Prioritization:
- Sunflower (LMB): Your main damage ability. Prioritize upgrading this for increased damage and focus regeneration.
- Thorn Strike (RMB): Essential for generating focus and applying status effects.
- Cramble (F): Your Cat's primary aggro and damage skill. Keep it upgraded.
- Pounce (Tab): Crucial for dazing enemies and setting up combos.
- Doom 'n' Bloom (4): Your first area-of-effect (AoE) skill. Great for clearing groups of mobs.
- Gear Acquisition:
- Weapon: Follow the main story questline to acquire your initial Hongmoon Weapon. Upgrade it using materials obtained from daily quests and dungeon rewards. The Stinger and Moonwater Soul Shield are early game staples.
- Soul Shield: The Viridian Coast Soul Shield (from the Viridian Coast storyline) and the Cinderlands Soul Shield (from the Cinderlands storyline) are excellent starting points. Focus on pieces with Critical Hit and Piercing stats.
- Combat Strategy:
- Always send your Cat in first with Cramble (F) to establish aggro.
- Maintain distance and cast Sunflower (LMB) and Thorn Strike (RMB).
- Use Pounce (Tab) to interrupt dangerous enemy attacks or to create an opening for burst damage.
- For groups of enemies, use Doom 'n' Bloom (4) after your Cat has grouped them up.
Mid-Game Optimization (Levels 31-50)
As you approach the level cap, your build will start to specialize. Focus on acquiring better gear and understanding dungeon mechanics.
- Skill Enhancements:
- Petal Storm (Z): A powerful defensive and offensive skill. Upgrade for increased damage and healing.
- Grasping Roots (3): Essential for crowd control and holding enemies in place for your Cat.
- Swarm (V): Your ultimate burst damage ability. Maximize its damage output.
- Friendship (C): Crucial for reviving your Cat and providing a quick heal.
- Dungeon Progression & Gear:
- Blackram Narrows: Farm for the Blackram Narrows Soul Shield. This set offers good Critical Hit and Accuracy.
- Brightstone Ruins: The Brightstone Ruins Soul Shield is a solid upgrade, providing more defensive stats.
- Bloodshade Harbor / Nightshade Harbor: These dungeons drop the Pirate Soul Shield and Scorpio Weapon, which are significant power spikes. Prioritize these.
- Weapon Evolution: Continue evolving your Hongmoon Weapon. The path typically involves upgrading through the Awakened Siren and Awakened Pirate stages.
- Advanced Combat Tips:
- Learn to effectively use your Cat's various abilities. Taunt (E) can be crucial for boss mechanics.
- Master the art of kiting. Use Backstep (SS) and Escape (Q/E) to reposition and avoid damage.
- Coordinate your crowd control (CC) with your party members in dungeons. Your Pounce (Tab) and Grasping Roots (3) are valuable CC tools.
End-Game Strategies (Level 50+)
At max level, the focus shifts to maximizing your damage, survivability, and utility in challenging raids and dungeons.
- Soul Shield & Accessories:
- Legendary Soul Shields: Aim for sets like the Raven Soul Shield, Aransu Soul Shield, or Grand Celestial Soul Shield, depending on the current patch and your preferred build. These are obtained from high-tier raids like Skybreak Spire and Temple of Eluvium.
- Legendary Accessories: The Awakened Oath Necklace, Awakened Eternity Belt, and Awakened Starstone Ring are top-tier choices. Acquire these from various end-game activities and events.
- Soul & Heart: Invest in a good Soul and Heart for significant stat boosts. The Ascendant Soul and True Hongmoon Heart are long-term goals.
- Weapon Path:
- The Raven Weapon and subsequent evolutions (e.g., Aransu, Grand Celestial) are your ultimate weapon goals. These require significant investment in materials from raids and daily challenges.
- Rotation & Playstyle:
- Wind Summoner (Wind Build): Focuses on rapid Sunflower (LMB) casts, empowered by Swarm (V) and Thorn Strike (RMB) resets. Maintain high uptime on your Cat's damage abilities.
- Earth Summoner (Earth Build): Emphasizes powerful Doom 'n' Bloom (4) and Thorn Strike (RMB) damage, often with a more burst-oriented playstyle.
- Practice your rotations on training dummies to maximize your damage per second (DPS).
- Utilize your Cat's Roar (Q) for party defense and your own Petal Storm (Z) for critical moments.
- Gems:
- Prioritize Attack Power, Critical Damage, and Piercing gems. The Flawless Peridot (Attack Power on Dodge/Block) and Flawless Amethyst (Heal on Critical Hit) are excellent choices.
