Costumes & Transmogrification

In Blade & Soul, looking good is just as important as playing well. The game offers a vast array of costumes and accessories, allowing players to customize their characters to an incredible degree. Beyond simply equipping a new outfit, the transmogrification system provides even deeper aesthetic control, letting you apply the appearance of one item to another.

Acquiring Costumes

Costumes in Blade & Soul can be obtained through several methods, catering to all playstyles:

  • Cash Shop (Hongmoon Store): The most direct route. The Hongmoon Store offers a rotating selection of premium costumes, often including limited-time seasonal outfits and exclusive designs. Keep an eye out for bundles that include matching accessories.
  • Dungeon Drops: Many dungeons, particularly higher-level ones, have a chance to drop unique costume pieces or entire outfits. For example, the "Blackram Uniform" can occasionally drop from the Blackram Supply Chain dungeon, while the "Dark Glamour" outfit is a rare find in the Ebondrake Citadel. Farming these dungeons with a group is a common strategy.
  • Faction Vendors: As you gain reputation with your chosen faction (Cerulean Order or Crimson Legion), you'll unlock the ability to purchase faction-specific costumes from their respective quartermasters in faction hubs like the Jadestone Village or the Sentinel's Perch. These often require Faction Insignias or other faction-specific currencies.
  • Event Rewards: Blade & Soul frequently hosts in-game events that offer exclusive costumes as rewards. Participate in daily quests, seasonal challenges, or special dungeon runs during these events to earn event tokens, which can then be exchanged for unique cosmetic items.
  • Crafting: Certain crafting professions, such as Tailoring, can craft specific costumes. You'll need to gather the necessary materials, which can be found through gathering professions, dungeon drops, or purchased from the marketplace.
  • PvP Rewards: For the arena champions, PvP activities can sometimes reward unique costumes that showcase your prowess in combat. Look for these rewards in the PvP vendor shops or as seasonal ladder rewards.

The Transmogrification Process (Wardrobe System)

Blade & Soul's transmogrification system is handled through the "Wardrobe," a convenient feature that allows you to store and apply the appearances of costumes and weapons without affecting their stats. This means you can wear your best-in-slot gear while looking exactly how you want.

Accessing Your Wardrobe:

To access your Wardrobe, simply press F3 (default keybind) or click the "Wardrobe" icon on your UI, usually located near your inventory or character panel.

Storing Items in the Wardrobe:

  1. Identify the Item: Ensure the costume or weapon you wish to store is in your inventory.
  2. Drag and Drop: Open your Wardrobe and drag the desired item from your inventory into the appropriate slot within the Wardrobe interface (e.g., "Outfit" for costumes, "Weapon Skin" for weapons).
  3. Confirmation: A confirmation prompt will appear. Confirm to store the item. The item will be consumed from your inventory and its appearance permanently added to your Wardrobe collection for that character.

Important Note: Once an item is stored in the Wardrobe, it cannot be retrieved as a physical item. Only its appearance is saved.

Applying Appearances:

  1. Open Wardrobe: Access your Wardrobe (F3).
  2. Select Category: Navigate to the "Outfits" or "Weapon Skins" tab, depending on what you wish to change.
  3. Choose Appearance: Browse through your collected appearances. Click on the desired costume or weapon skin.
  4. Apply: Click the "Apply" button. The selected appearance will be applied to your currently equipped gear.

Cost of Application: Applying an appearance from your Wardrobe typically costs a small amount of gold. This fee is usually negligible but can add up if you frequently change your look.

Dyeing Costumes:

Many costumes in Blade & Soul can be dyed to further personalize your look. This feature is also integrated into the Wardrobe system.

  • Dye Vials: Dye Vials are consumable items obtained from the Hongmoon Store, event rewards, or sometimes as rare drops. Each vial typically contains a specific color.
  • Access Dyeing Interface: Within the Wardrobe, select the costume you wish to dye. If it's dyeable, a "Dye" button or tab will appear.
  • Apply Dye: Drag and drop the Dye Vial onto the designated color swatch within the dyeing interface. Some costumes have multiple dyeable regions, allowing for multi-color customization.

Tips for Fashion-Conscious Players:

  • Preview Before You Buy/Store: Always use the "Preview" function in the Hongmoon Store or when inspecting items to see how they look on your character before committing.
  • Mix and Match: Don't be afraid to combine different costume pieces (if applicable) or accessories to create a truly unique ensemble.
  • Seasonal Events are Key: Many of the most sought-after and unique costumes are only available during specific seasonal events. Plan your playtime accordingly to grab these limited-time items.
  • Community Resources: Check out community wikis, forums, and fan sites for galleries of costumes and player-created fashion guides to inspire your next look.
