Mounts & Travel
Navigating the vast and beautiful world of Blade & Soul is an adventure in itself. While your character possesses incredible acrobatic abilities, mounts offer a faster, more efficient, and often stylish way to traverse the diverse landscapes of the Earthen Realm. This section will guide you through acquiring and utilizing mounts, along with other essential travel methods.
Acquiring Your First Mount
Your journey to mount ownership begins early in the main story questline. The most common first mount is the Swiftstride Cerulean Horse or the Crimson Charger, depending on your chosen faction (Cerulean Order or Crimson Legion, respectively). Follow these steps:
- Complete Act 1: The Gathering Storm: Progress through the initial story quests until you reach the Viridian Coast.
- "A Horse of Your Own" Quest: Around Level 5-7, you will receive a quest titled "A Horse of Your Own" from a local NPC, typically a Stable Hand in Bamboo Village or Jadestone Village.
- Gathering Materials: This quest usually requires you to gather a small number of specific items. For the Swiftstride Cerulean Horse, you might need Fresh Viridian Grass (found by interacting with glowing plant nodes in the Viridian Coast) and Sturdy Leather Scraps (dropped by various beasts in the area, such as Wild Boars or Forest Wolves).
- Return to the Stable Hand: Once you have the required items, return to the Stable Hand to complete the quest. You will be rewarded with your first mount.
Upon receiving your mount, it will be added to your inventory. Right-click the mount item to learn it, and then you can access it via the Mounts tab (default key: F9).
Mount Controls and Abilities
Mounts in Blade & Soul are straightforward to use but offer a few key functionalities:
- Summon/Dismiss: Press the default mount key (typically F9) to summon or dismiss your active mount. You can only summon a mount in designated outdoor areas, not within dungeons, cities, or certain quest zones.
- Movement: Use your standard movement keys (W, A, S, D) to control your mount. Mounts generally move faster than your character's sprint.
- Sprint: Hold down the Shift key while moving to make your mount sprint, consuming a small amount of mount stamina. Mount stamina regenerates automatically when not sprinting.
- Mount Abilities: Some mounts come with unique abilities, though these are often cosmetic or provide minor buffs. Check your mount's tooltip for details.
Advanced Mount Acquisition
Beyond your first basic mount, Blade & Soul offers a plethora of unique and visually stunning mounts. These can be obtained through various methods:
1. Dungeon & Raid Drops
Many high-level dungeons and raids have a chance to drop rare mount tokens or direct mount items. These are often highly sought after due to their unique aesthetics.
- Blackram Supply Chain (Heroic): The Blackram Dashing Steed can rarely drop from Admiral Hae Mujin.
- Ebony Mines (Heroic): Look for the Ebony Shadow Steed from the final boss, the Ebony Lord.
- Skybreak Spire (Raid): The Phoenix Mount is a prestigious drop from the Raven King, requiring significant coordination and effort.
2. Event Rewards
Seasonal events and special in-game promotions frequently offer exclusive mounts as rewards. Keep an eye on the official Blade & Soul website and in-game announcements for these opportunities.
- Anniversary Events: Often feature unique themed mounts, such as the Golden Dragon Mount or Silver Phoenix.
- Holiday Events: Mounts like the Winter Wonderland Reindeer or Spring Blossom Deer are typically available during their respective holiday periods.
3. Cash Shop (Hongmoon Store)
The Hongmoon Store (accessible via F10) offers a rotating selection of premium mounts for purchase with NCoin or Hongmoon Coin. These mounts are purely cosmetic and do not offer any gameplay advantages over standard mounts.
- New Release Bundles: Often include a new mount alongside costumes and other items.
- Limited-Time Offers: Keep an eye out for discounts or exclusive mounts that are only available for a short period.
4. PvP & Faction Rewards
Dedicated PvP You can earn mounts through arena rankings or by accumulating faction reputation.
- Faction Quartermasters: In the faction strongholds of Hogshead Pastures (Cerulean Order) and Sentinel Ruins (Crimson Legion), you can exchange Faction Insignias for faction-themed mounts like the Cerulean Warhorse or Crimson Battle Charger.
- PvP Season Rewards: Top-ranked players in competitive PvP seasons may receive exclusive mounts as a testament to their skill.
Other Travel Methods
While mounts are excellent for overland travel, Blade & Soul offers several other crucial methods for quick and efficient movement across the Earthen Realm.
1. Dragon Pulse
Dragon Pulses are Blade & Soul's primary fast travel system. These glowing blue or red portals are scattered across every zone.
- Activation: Simply walk over a Dragon Pulse to activate it. Once activated, it becomes a permanent fast travel point on your map.
- Usage: Open your map (M), click on an activated Dragon Pulse, and select "Travel." A small fee in copper or silver may apply depending on the distance.
- Strategic Activation: Make it a habit to activate every Dragon Pulse you encounter, even if you don't immediately need it. This will save you immense travel time later.
2. Windwalk
Windwalk is your character's innate ability to glide and dash across distances. It's essential for navigating terrain and reaching otherwise inaccessible areas.
- Basic Windwalk: Press Shift while moving to sprint.
- Glide: Jump (Spacebar) and then press Spacebar again in mid-air to initiate a glide. This consumes stamina.
- Dash: While gliding, press W to perform a forward dash, covering more ground quickly.
- Wall Run: Approach a wall while sprinting and jump to run along its surface for a short distance.
- Upgrades: Windwalk abilities are upgraded through story quests and specific training quests, increasing your stamina, glide duration, and unlocking new moves like the Triple Dash or Air Dash. Prioritize these quests!
3. Soulstone Plains Teleport
For quick access to the Soulstone Plains, a major PvP and resource gathering zone, there's a dedicated teleportation NPC.
- Location: Look for the Soulstone Plains Teleporter NPC in the faction strongholds of Zaiwei (for Cerulean Order) or Mushin's Tower (for Crimson Legion).
- Cost: There is usually a small fee in gold or silver to use this service.
Mastering these travel methods, especially the strategic use of Dragon Pulses and your character's Windwalk abilities, will significantly enhance your Blade & Soul experience, allowing you to explore the world efficiently and engage in its many challenges without unnecessary delays.
