Cheogh is the first of Tchernobog's lieutenants and the boss of Episode 1. This massive, winged demon is a formidable foe, but with the right strategy, Caleb can send him back to the abyss.
Arena:
Cheogh's arena is typically a large, open area, often with some pillars or elevated platforms for cover. There might be some health and ammo pickups scattered around, but don't rely on them during the fight.
Cheogh's Attacks & Phases:
- Fireball Barrage: Cheogh will fly around the arena and launch multiple fireballs at Caleb. These are relatively slow but can be difficult to dodge in rapid succession.
- Dive Attack: Cheogh will occasionally dive down, attempting to ram Caleb. This attack deals heavy damage if it connects.
- Ground Pound (Phase 2): Once Cheogh takes significant damage, he may land on the ground and perform a ground pound, creating a shockwave that damages Caleb.
- Summon Minions (Phase 2): In later stages, Cheogh might summon a few Cheogh's Minions to distract Caleb.
Recommended Weapons & Strategy:
- Tommy Gun: Your primary damage dealer. Keep a steady stream of fire on Cheogh, especially when he's flying.
- Sawed-Off Shotgun (Secondary Fire): If Cheogh dives close or lands, a double-barrel blast can deal significant burst damage.
- Dynamite (Secondary Fire): Excellent for direct hits when Cheogh is flying or on the ground. Throw it to explode on impact.
- Tesla Cannon: If you found it in a secret, this weapon is highly effective due to its continuous damage and ability to track Cheogh.
- Life Leech: If available, its primary fire can deal good damage and heal you simultaneously.
Tactics:
- Stay Mobile: Constantly strafe and move to avoid Cheogh's fireballs and dive attacks. Never stand still.
- Use Cover: Utilize any pillars or structures in the arena for cover from fireballs.
- Focus Fire: Concentrate all your firepower on Cheogh. Don't get distracted by any summoned minions unless they become an immediate threat.
- Exploit Openings: When Cheogh is flying, keep firing. When he lands, unleash your most powerful close-range attacks (double shotgun, dynamite).
- Conserve Health/Armor: If you find health or armor pickups, only grab them when absolutely necessary, or when you have a safe window.
- Power-ups: If you have an Invulnerability or Guns Akimbo power-up, use it during this fight to maximize your damage output.
Cheogh is a test of your basic combat skills. Keep moving, keep shooting, and he'll fall.
