Shial is the second of Tchernobog's lieutenants and the boss of Episode 2. This giant, grotesque spider-like creature is a master of venom and summoning, making her a challenging foe in her web-filled lair.
Arena:
Shial's arena is typically a large, circular chamber covered in webs and cocoons. There might be some elevated platforms or pillars. Health and ammo pickups are usually present, but often in hard-to-reach or dangerous spots.
Shial's Attacks & Phases:
- Venom Spit: Shial will spit globs of venom that deal damage and obscure Caleb's vision. These are her primary ranged attack.
- Web Shot: Shial can shoot webs that slow Caleb down, making him an easy target.
- Summon Spiders: Shial will frequently summon numerous smaller Spiders to swarm Caleb. These can be a major distraction and deal continuous damage.
- Melee Attack: If Caleb gets too close, Shial will attempt to bite or claw him.
- Cocoon Burst (Phase 2): In later phases, Shial might cause cocoons around the arena to burst, releasing more Spiders or even other enemies.
Recommended Weapons & Strategy:
- Tommy Gun: Excellent for sustained damage against Shial and for clearing out the numerous summoned Spiders.
- Sawed-Off Shotgun (Secondary Fire): Highly effective against Shial when she's close, and for quickly dispatching groups of Spiders.
- Dynamite (Secondary Fire): Great for direct hits on Shial and for clearing out large groups of Spiders.
- Tesla Cannon: Devastating against Shial and her summoned Spiders due to its chain lightning effect. Prioritize this if available.
- Napalm Launcher: Excellent for area denial and clearing out groups of Spiders, as well as dealing damage over time to Shial.
- Voodoo Doll (Primary Fire): Can deal significant damage to Shial if you can maintain a lock.
Tactics:
- Prioritize Spiders: The summoned Spiders are a constant threat. Clear them out quickly with the Tommy Gun, Shotgun, or Napalm Launcher to prevent being overwhelmed.
- Stay Mobile: Constantly strafe and move to avoid Shial's venom and web shots. Being slowed by webs is extremely dangerous.
- Use the Environment: Utilize any pillars or elevated platforms for cover from Shial's attacks.
- Focus Fire on Shial: While clearing Spiders is important, your main goal is to damage Shial. Keep a steady stream of fire on her whenever possible.
- Exploit Weakness: Shial is a large target, making her easy to hit with explosives and area-of-effect weapons.
- Power-ups: Invulnerability or Guns Akimbo can turn the tide. Reflective Shot can be surprisingly effective if Shial is spitting a lot of venom.
- Health Management: Use the Life Leech's secondary fire if you're getting overwhelmed by Spiders and need to heal.
Shial is a test of crowd control and target prioritization. Don't let the Spiders overwhelm you, and keep the pressure on Shial.
