'The Bog' is a murky, swampy level, often featuring open outdoor areas, dilapidated shacks, and treacherous water. This level emphasizes environmental hazards and long-range engagements.
- Swampy Start: You'll begin in a boggy area. Watch out for deep water, which can slow you down and hide Gill Beasts. Cultists and Zombies will be present.
- Dilapidated Structures: Explore the various shacks, cabins, and broken-down structures scattered throughout the bog. These often contain ammo, health, or keys.
- Snipers: Due to the open nature of the bog, Cultists often take up sniper positions on rooftops or elevated platforms. Use the Flare Gun's primary fire or the Tommy Gun to deal with them from a distance.
- Finding the Keys: You'll need to find keys (e.g., Skull Key, Spider Key) to unlock doors to larger structures or to activate mechanisms. These are often hidden in obscure corners or guarded by groups of enemies.
- Environmental Puzzles: You might need to activate a pump to drain a section of the bog, or use a makeshift bridge to cross a wide expanse of water.
- Fanatics: This level often introduces Fanatics, heavily armored Cultists who wield powerful weapons and are very resilient. Use Dynamite, the Tesla Cannon, or the Sawed-Off Shotgun's secondary fire to quickly dispatch them. Aim for their heads if possible.
- Exit: The exit is typically a path leading out of the bog, perhaps into a cave system or a more fortified structure, once all objectives are met.
This level requires careful movement and good aim for long-range targets. The Flare Gun's secondary fire can be useful for lighting up dark corners of shacks or setting groups of enemies on fire in the open. Be prepared for tough fights against Fanatics.
