Dealing with Status Effects
Yharnam is a city rife with corruption, and many of its inhabitants and environments inflict debilitating status effects. Understanding how to counter and manage these afflictions is crucial for survival, as they can quickly turn the tide of battle against even the most seasoned hunters.
The most common status effects you'll encounter are Frenzy, Poison, and Slow Poison. Frenzy is particularly dangerous, building up rapidly and dealing massive damage if not managed. It's often inflicted by specific enemies like the Winter Lanterns or by certain environmental hazards. Poison, on the other hand, deals damage over time, slowly chipping away at your health.
To combat these effects, you'll need to rely on a combination of items, gear, and careful play. Blood Vials can restore health lost to poison, but they won't stop the effect itself. For Frenzy, the best defense is often to break line of sight with the source or to quickly use a Sedative item. Sedatives are consumable items that reduce Frenzy buildup.
Status Effect Management:
| Status Effect | Symptoms | Countermeasures |
|---|---|---|
| Frenzy | Rapid health drain, visual distortion. | Sedatives, break line of sight, quick healing. |
| Poison | Slow health drain over time. | Antidotes, Blood Vials (to recover lost HP), avoid poison sources. |
| Slow Poison | Very slow health drain over time. | Antidotes, Blood Vials, avoid poison sources. |
Certain armor sets can offer resistance to specific status effects. For example, the Ashen Hunter Set provides some resistance to Frenzy. Additionally, some weapons can inflict status effects on enemies, turning their own corruption against them.
Always keep a stock of Antidotes and Sedatives in your quick item slots. Learning the tells of enemies that inflict these effects will also give you a crucial advantage, allowing you to react before the status effect takes hold.
