Lamp Posts & Fast Travel
Lamp Posts in Bloodborne serve as crucial checkpoints and the primary means of fast travel between different areas of the game. Interacting with these glowing beacons not only allows you to return to the safety of the Hunter's Dream but also to warp to previously discovered Lamps, streamlining exploration and enabling strategic repositioning in Yharnam's sprawling, interconnected world.
The Function of Lamps:
- Checkpoints: Lamps act as save points. When you interact with a Lamp, your progress is saved, and your health and Quicksilver Bullets are replenished.
- Respawning: Upon death, you will respawn at the last activated Lamp you rested at.
- Returning to the Hunter's Dream: Lamps are the only way to return to the Hunter's Dream, where you can level up, upgrade weapons, and manage your inventory.
- Fast Travel: Once you have discovered and activated multiple Lamps, you can use the tombstones in the Hunter's Dream to fast travel between them.
Discovering and Activating Lamps:
- Lamps are typically found in safe areas or at the beginning of new zones. They emit a distinct, soft glow.
- Simply approaching and interacting with a Lamp will activate it. You do not need to rest at it for it to become a fast travel option.
- The first Lamp you encounter is in Iosefka's Clinic, leading you to the Hunter's Dream.
The Hunter's Dream and Tombstones:
- The Hunter's Dream is your central hub, accessible from any activated Lamp.
- Within the Hunter's Dream, you will find several tombstones. Each tombstone corresponds to a Lamp you have discovered in the world.
- Interacting with a tombstone allows you to select which Lamp you wish to warp to.
Strategic Use of Lamps:
- Farming: After activating a Lamp near a farming spot, you can repeatedly die or return to the Hunter's Dream to respawn enemies and gather Blood Echoes or items.
- Resource Management: If you are low on Blood Vials or Quicksilver Bullets, you can return to the Hunter's Dream via a Lamp to replenish your stock (though this will reset enemy positions in the world).
- Boss Preparation: Activating a Lamp close to a boss arena allows for quick access if you die, minimizing the time spent re-traveling.
- Area Exploration: Discovering new Lamps opens up new fast travel options, making it easier to backtrack and explore previously inaccessible areas.
Important Notes:
- Lamps do not respawn enemies when you rest at them; only returning to the Hunter's Dream or dying does this.
- The game does not feature a traditional map system, so remembering the layout of areas and the locations of Lamps is crucial for navigation.
Lamps are your lifeline in the darkness of Yharnam. Utilize them wisely to save your progress, manage your resources, and navigate the treacherous paths that lie ahead.
