Common Enemies & Their Weaknesses

Yharnam is a city overrun by a menagerie of terrifying creatures, from shambling villagers to monstrous beasts. Each enemy presents a unique challenge, and understanding their weaknesses is paramount to survival. This guide details common foes and the most effective strategies to dispatch them efficiently.

The early areas of Yharnam are populated by several threats that serve as a harsh introduction to the game's combat. Learning their attack patterns and exploiting their vulnerabilities will be key to your early progression.

Central Yharnam Threats:

  • Beasts (Werewolves, etc.): These are the most common enemies. They are generally susceptible to fire damage and weapons with the serrated property (like the Saw Cleaver and Saw Spear). Blunt weapons can also stagger them effectively. Their aggressive nature makes them prime targets for parries.
  • Yharnamites (Villagers): These former citizens, often armed with pitchforks or torches, are less durable than beasts. They are vulnerable to quick attacks and can be easily staggered. Fire is also effective against them.
  • Huntsmen: These are former hunters who have succumbed to the plague. They wield weapons similar to yours and can be quite dangerous. They are susceptible to parries and can be staggered with heavy attacks.
  • Giant Undead: Large, slow-moving enemies that hit hard. They have predictable attack patterns and are vulnerable to blunt damage and visceral attacks if you can get behind them.

Old Yharnam Threats:

  • Djura and his Snipers: Djura, perched on rooftops, uses a Gatling gun. His snipers also employ firearms. The best approach is to use cover and fire damage. If you can reach Djura, he can be fought directly, but he is a formidable opponent.
  • Beasts (more aggressive): The beasts in Old Yharnam are often more aggressive and numerous. The same weaknesses (fire, serrated, blunt) apply.

Cathedral Ward Threats:

  • Church Servants: These enemies wield sickles and can be quite agile. They are vulnerable to quick attacks and parries.
  • Hunters with Firearms: Some hunters in this area wield firearms, making ranged combat a threat. Closing the distance quickly and using parries is often the best strategy.

General Weaknesses:

  • Fire: Many enemies, especially beasts, have a significant weakness to fire damage.
  • Serrated Weapons: The Saw Cleaver and Saw Spear deal bonus damage to all beast-type enemies.
  • Blunt Damage: Weapons like the Hunter's Axe (in its transformed state) can stagger enemies effectively, creating openings.
  • Arcane Damage: Certain enemies, particularly Kin-type creatures, are vulnerable to arcane damage.
  • Bolt Damage: Similar to arcane, bolt damage can be highly effective against specific enemy types.

Remember to always observe enemy attack patterns and exploit their recovery animations. Dodging is your primary defense, and parrying with your firearm can turn the tide of any encounter.
