DLC Weapons & Armor
Welcome, good hunter, to a comprehensive guide on the formidable arsenal and protective gear introduced in The Old Hunters DLC. This section will meticulously detail how to acquire every new weapon and armor set, offering actionable steps and strategic advice to bolster your hunt.
Acquiring Weapons
The Old Hunters DLC introduces a plethora of unique Trick Weapons and Firearms, each with distinct transformations and combat styles. Many are found off the beaten path or guarded by challenging foes. Prepare for a fight!
Trick Weapons
- Beast Cutter:
- Location: Found in the Hunter's Nightmare. From the Nightmare Church lamp, proceed through the area until you reach a large open space with several Beast Patients. Look for a path leading down to a lower section where a large Beast-possessed Soul patrols. The Beast Cutter is on a corpse near a tree in this lower area.
- Strategy: This weapon excels at crowd control with its extended whip form. Use its wide arcs to keep multiple enemies at bay.
- Boom Hammer:
- Location: Also in the Hunter's Nightmare. From the Nightmare Church lamp, head left and down the stairs. You'll encounter a large Hunter wielding this very weapon. Defeat him to acquire it.
- Strategy: The Boom Hammer's charged R2 attack ignites, dealing significant fire damage. Time your attacks carefully for maximum impact.
- Church Pick:
- Location: Located in the Research Hall. After activating the elevator shortcut from the Lumenflower Gardens, take it down. The Church Pick is on a corpse in a small alcove near the bottom.
- Strategy: This weapon's transformed mode offers excellent thrust damage, making it ideal for piercing enemies with weak points or those susceptible to thrust attacks.
- Holy Moonlight Sword:
- Location: Acquired after defeating Ludwig, the Holy Blade. Return to Ludwig's arena after his defeat and speak to his severed head. If you are wearing any Church attire (e.g., White Church Set, Black Church Set), he will recognize you and grant you the sword. If not, attack his head and then speak to it again.
- Strategy: A powerful arcane weapon. Its transformed state consumes Quicksilver Bullets to fire projectile waves, offering ranged attack options.
- Kos Parasite:
- Location: Obtained after defeating the Orphan of Kos. This weapon is dropped directly by the boss upon its defeat.
- Strategy: This weapon is unique and requires high Arcane scaling to be effective. It also transforms your character into a Kin-like creature, altering your moveset.
- Rakuyo:
- Location: Found in the Fishing Hamlet. From the Fishing Hamlet lamp, proceed through the village until you reach the well. You must defeat two formidable Shark Giants inside the well to claim the Rakuyo from a corpse.
- Strategy: A fast, dual-wielding weapon with excellent damage potential. The fight against the Shark Giants is notoriously difficult; consider drawing them out one by one or using Shaman Bone Blades.
- Simon's Bowblade:
- Location: Acquired from Simon the Harrowed. You can either kill him at any point in the DLC to get it, or follow his questline. His questline involves speaking to him at various locations (Research Hall, Fishing Hamlet) and then finding him mortally wounded in the Fishing Hamlet, where he will give you the Bowblade.
- Strategy: This weapon transforms into a powerful bow, allowing for ranged combat. It scales with Skill and Bloodtinge.
- Whirligig Saw:
- Location: Found in the Hunter's Nightmare. From the Nightmare Church lamp, head right and down the path. You'll encounter a large Hunter wielding this weapon. Defeat him to acquire it.
- Strategy: Excellent for sustained damage, especially against larger enemies and bosses. Its transformed L2 attack is a continuous saw spin that can stagger and shred foes.
Firearms
- Gatling Gun:
- Location: Located in the Hunter's Nightmare. From the Nightmare Church lamp, head right and down the path, past where you find the Whirligig Saw Hunter. Continue until you find a cave entrance. Inside, you'll encounter a large Hunter wielding the Gatling Gun. Defeat him to obtain it.
- Strategy: Consumes a lot of Quicksilver Bullets but can unleash a devastating barrage of shots. Best used for high damage output in short bursts.
- Fist of Gratia:
- Location: Found in the Research Hall. From the Research Hall lamp, proceed through the main hall and take the first elevator down. The Fist of Gratia is on a corpse in a small room at the bottom, guarded by a Living Failure.
- Strategy: A unique weapon that replaces your left-hand firearm. It's a powerful gauntlet for close-range, high-stagger attacks.
Acquiring Armor Sets
The Old Hunters DLC also introduces several new armor sets, offering both aesthetic variety and practical resistances for the challenging encounters ahead.
- Brador's Testimony Set (Brador's Garb, Brador's Gauntlets, Brador's Trousers):
- Location: This set is acquired by defeating Brador, the Church Assassin. Brador invades you multiple times throughout the DLC. Each time you defeat him, he drops a piece of his set. His final invasion occurs near the Lighthouse Hut lamp in the Fishing Hamlet.
- Strategy: Brador is a tough opponent. Be prepared for his aggressive attacks and his unique weapon, the Bloodletter.
- Butcher Set (Butcher Mask, Butcher Garb, Butcher Gloves, Butcher Trousers):
- Location: Found in the Hunter's Nightmare. From the Nightmare Church lamp, head left and down the stairs. You'll encounter a large Hunter wielding the Boom Hammer. Defeat him to acquire the entire set.
- Strategy: This set offers good physical defense and a menacing appearance.
- Old Hunter Set (Old Hunter Cap, Old Hunter Garb, Old Hunter Gloves, Old Hunter Trousers):
- Location: Found in the Hunter's Nightmare. From the Nightmare Church lamp, head right and down the path. You'll encounter a large Hunter wielding the Whirligig Saw. Defeat him to acquire the entire set.
- Strategy: A classic hunter look with decent all-around resistances.
- Yamamura Set (Yamamura's Headband, Yamamura's Garb, Yamamura's Gauntlets, Yamamura's Trousers):
- Location: Found in the Research Hall. After activating the elevator shortcut from the Lumenflower Gardens, take it down. The set is on a corpse in a small cell on the lower floor, near where you find the Church Pick.
- Strategy: This set offers good resistance to Frenzy.
