Gestures & Communication

While Bloodborne is a predominantly solitary experience, the game offers a subtle yet meaningful way to communicate with other players through gestures. These non-verbal expressions can convey a range of emotions and intentions, from camaraderie and respect to warnings and acknowledgments. Understanding and utilizing gestures can enrich the online experience.

Gestures are performed by holding down the Up directional button on the D-pad. This brings up a radial menu of available gestures. The specific gestures available to you will depend on your progression in the game and any items you may have acquired.

Common Gestures and Their Uses:

  • "Hello" / "Welcome": A friendly greeting, often used when encountering another player or an NPC. It can sify peaceful intentions.
  • "Point": Used to draw attention to a specific item, enemy, or path. In co-op, it's invaluable for guiding your partner.
  • "Request" / "Beg": Can be used to ask for help, items, or to express a desire for interaction.
  • "Joyful": An expression of happiness or success, often used after defeating a difficult boss.
  • "Tremble": A gesture of fear or distress, sometimes used to warn other players of danger.
  • "Bow": A s of respect, often used after a successful co-op session or when encountering a particularly challenging foe.
  • "Clap": Can be used to acknowledge another player's skill or a successful maneuver.
  • "Point Down": Often used as a taunt or to sify a player's defeat.

Acquiring New Gestures:

Many gestures are learned by interacting with specific NPCs or by finding them as items in the game world. For example, some gestures are taught by characters like the Doll or other friendly NPCs you encounter.

Gestures in Co-op:

In cooperative play, gestures become even more important. They allow for a basic form of communication when voice chat is not available or desired. You can use gestures to:

  • Sal readiness: Indicate that you are prepared to engage an enemy or boss.
  • Express gratitude: Thank your co-op partner for their assistance.
  • Warn of danger: Alert your partner to hidden enemies or traps.
  • Celebrate victory: Share in the triumph after a tough fight.

While gestures cannot replace direct communication, they add a layer of personality and interaction to Bloodborne's online component. Experiment with them, and you might find yourself developing a unique way to express yourself in the dark, unforgiving world of Yharnam.
