Bell Maidens & Bell Ringing
The intricate online system of Bloodborne relies on specific mechanics involving Bell Maidens and the use of various Bells. These elements facilitate both cooperative play and player-versus-player invasions, adding a dynamic social layer to the hunt. Understanding how these mechanics function is key to engaging with other hunters or defending your own world.
The Beckoning Bell: Summoning Allies
- Function: The Beckoning Bell allows you to summon other players into your world for cooperative play.
- Requirements: Requires 1 Insight to use. Can only be used when you are in an area with an active lamp and have not yet defeated the area's boss.
- How it Works: When you ring the Beckoning Bell, other players who are using the Small Resonant Bell in their world will be able to join yours.
- Co-op Session: You can have up to two other players join your session. The session ends when the boss of the area is defeated, you die, or you choose to 'Mute' the bell.
The Small Resonant Bell: Joining Others
- Function: The Small Resonant Bell allows you to join the worlds of other players who are ringing their Beckoning Bell.
- Requirements: No Insight cost.
- How it Works: When you ring the Small Resonant Bell, you will be matched with a host who is actively seeking help.
- Objective: Your goal is to help the host defeat the area's boss or survive until they are ready to proceed.
The Sinister Resonant Bell: Invading Others
- Function: The Sinister Resonant Bell allows you to invade the worlds of other players for player-versus-player (PvP) combat.
- Requirements: No Insight cost.
- How it Works: When you ring the Sinister Resonant Bell, you will be matched with a host who is ringing their Beckoning Bell.
- Objective: Defeat the host player to win the invasion. If you die, you are returned to your own world.
Bell Maidens: Facilitating Invasions
- Function: Bell Maidens are special NPCs or environmental elements that enable invasions in certain areas or during specific events.
- How they Work: When a Bell Maiden is present, players using the Sinister Resonant Bell can invade the host's world, even if the host is not actively seeking PvP.
- Locations: Bell Maidens can be found in specific areas or may appear during certain boss fights or events. Their presence often indicates a higher likelihood of PvP encounters.
- Removing a Bell Maiden: In some cases, defeating a Bell Maiden can prevent further invasions in that area.
Important Considerations:
- Insight and Invasions: While using the Sinister Resonant Bell doesn't cost Insight, having Insight in your possession can sometimes make you more susceptible to invasions.
- Password Matching: You can set a password in the online settings to ensure you only connect with friends, regardless of your level.
- Area Restrictions: You can only summon or invade players within the same general area of the game.
By understanding and utilizing these bell-ringing mechanics, you can actively participate in Bloodborne's online community, seeking aid when needed, offering your assistance to others, or engaging in thrilling PvP duels.
