Unlocking & Recruiting NPCs
While Yharnam is a lonely and dangerous place, you are not entirely without allies. Throughout your journey, you will encounter various NPCs, some of whom can offer aid, lore, or even join you in your quest. Unlocking and recruiting these characters often involves specific questlines, dialogue choices, and sometimes, the completion of certain game milestones. Paying attention to their needs and directing them to safe havens can have sificant consequences.
Many NPCs can be directed to one of two primary safe zones: Iosefka's Clinic or the Oedon Chapel. Your choice of where to send them can impact their fate and the items you receive. For instance, directing certain characters to the Chapel might lead to them offering services or contributing to the growing community there, while sending others to the Clinic might have more ambiguous results.
Key NPCs and their recruitment/interaction points:
- Gilbert: Found in a window in Central Yharnam. He provides early lore and can offer the Flamesprayer tool if you meet certain conditions.
- Oedon Chapel Dweller: Located in the Oedon Chapel. This NPC acts as a central point for many other characters and can offer unique dialogue and items.
- Alfred: A hunter encountered in the Cathedral Ward. He has his own questline involving the Executioners and the Vilebloods, leading to sificant rewards.
