The Chalice Dungeon Altar

The Chalice Dungeon Altar, located in the Hunter's Dream, is the gateway to a vast network of optional, procedurally generated dungeons. It's here that hunters perform rituals using Chalice items to unlock and delve into these challenging, yet rewarding, subterranean labyrinths.

Interacting with the Altar presents you with a list of available Chalices. To perform a ritual, you must possess the required Chalice item and any associated ritual materials. The first Chalice you'll typically acquire is the Pthumeru Chalice, which allows you to access the Pthumeru Dungeons. As you progress through the game and find more Chalices, new options will appear on the Altar.

The Chalice Dungeons are divided into two main types: fixed Chalices and Root Chalices. Fixed Chalices, like the Pthumeru, Central Pthumeru, and Great Pthumeru Chalices, have set layouts and boss encounters. Root Chalices, on the other hand, are procedurally generated, meaning their layouts, enemy placements, and even boss types can vary with each use. This offers immense replayability but also makes them unpredictable.

Using the Altar:

  1. Select a Chalice: Choose the Chalice you wish to use from the Altar's menu.
  2. Gather Materials: Ensure you have the necessary ritual materials (e.g., Ritual Blood, Kin Coldblood, Fungalmush).
  3. Perform Ritual: Interact with the Chalice to perform the ritual, which will then create the dungeon.
  4. Enter the Dungeon: Once the ritual is complete, you can enter the newly created dungeon.

The Chalice Dungeon Altar is your key to unlocking some of Bloodborne's most challenging content and acquiring some of the most powerful gear, particularly Blood Gems, which are essential for optimizing your character's build.
