PvP (Tactical Challenge)
The Tactical Challenge is Blue Archive's primary PvP mode, allowing you to test your student squads against other Senseis' defenses. While the battles are automated, strategic team composition and understanding the meta are crucial for climbing the ranks and earning valuable rewards. This guide will help you navigate the intricacies of the Tactical Challenge.
Accessing Tactical Challenge
To participate, navigate to the Lessons tab from the main lobby, then select Tactical Challenge. You'll be presented with your current rank, daily reward status, and a list of opponents to challenge.
Understanding the Battle System
Tactical Challenge battles are fully automated. Once you initiate a challenge, your students and the opponent's students will engage without direct player input. This means your success hinges entirely on your preparation:
- Team Composition: The synergy between your students' skills, their roles (Striker/Special), and their EX Skill costs is paramount.
- Gear & Levels: Maximizing your students' levels, skills, and equipping them with high-tier gear (T4, T5, T6) is essential for raw power.
- Positioning: While you can't control movement in battle, the initial deployment order can sometimes influence target priority.
Daily Routine and Rewards
Engaging in Tactical Challenge daily is highly recommended for consistent resource income. Here's a breakdown:
- Daily Attempts: You receive 5 free attempts per day. These reset at your server's daily reset time.
- Refresh Opponents: If the available opponents are too strong or undesirable, you can refresh the list for free up to 3 times per day. Additional refreshes cost 20 Pyroxene each.
- Victory Rewards:
- Tactical Challenge Coins: Earned for each victory, used in the Tactical Challenge Shop.
- Credit Points: A small amount of Credits are also awarded.
- Rank Rewards:
- Daily Pyroxene: Awarded based on your rank at daily reset. Higher ranks yield significantly more Pyroxene.
- One-Time Rank Up Rewards: Upon reaching a new highest rank, you'll receive a substantial one-time Pyroxene bonus. Prioritize climbing as high as possible!
Team Building Strategies
The meta in Tactical Challenge is constantly evolving, but some core principles remain:
Student Roles and Synergy
- Tanks (e.g., Haruna (New Year), Tsubaki, Yuuka): Essential for soaking damage and protecting your damage dealers. Prioritize their survivability with HP and DEF gear.
- Damage Dealers (e.g., Iori, Hoshino, Hibiki): Your primary source of offense. Focus on students with high single-target or area-of-effect (AoE) damage.
- Support/Utility (e.g., Serina, Hibiki, Koharu): Students who heal, buff allies, or debuff enemies can turn the tide. Hibiki's AoE damage and stun are particularly potent.
- EX Skill Cost: A balanced team often includes students with low-cost EX Skills for quick activation and high-cost EX Skills for powerful bursts.
Common Team Archetypes
While specific student recommendations change with updates, these archetypes provide a good starting point:
- Rushdown (Aggro): Focuses on quickly eliminating enemy tanks or key damage dealers. Often uses students with strong opening EX Skills or fast EX Skill generation.
- Example: Iori, Hoshino, Hibiki, Serina (for quick heals/buffs).
- Stall/Attrition: Aims to outlast the opponent through superior healing and defense, slowly chipping away at their HP.
- Example: Tsubaki, Yuuka, Koharu, a high-damage Striker.
- AoE Burst: Relies on powerful area-of-effect attacks to wipe out multiple enemies simultaneously.
- Example: Hibiki, Haruna, Hina, a strong tank to protect them.
Gear and Enhancements
Equipping your students with the best possible gear is non-negotiable for high-rank PvP.
- Prioritize T-Tier Gear: Always aim for the highest T-tier gear available (e.g., T5, T6). Even lower rarity gear at a higher T-tier often outperforms higher rarity gear at a lower T-tier.
- Enhance Gear: Use Enhancement Stones and Credits to level up your gear. Maxing out gear provides significant stat boosts.
- Optimal Gear Types:
- Tanks: Focus on Bags (HP), Watches (HP), and Hairpins (DEF).
- Damage Dealers: Prioritize Hats (ATK), Gloves (ATK), and Necklaces (Crit DMG/Crit Rate).
- Healers/Support: Bags (HP), Watches (HP), and Charms (Heal Power).
Tactical Challenge Shop
The Tactical Challenge Shop, accessible via the Shop menu, is where you spend your accumulated Tactical Challenge Coins. This shop is a crucial source for:
- Student Eleph: Purchase Eleph for specific students, often including powerful meta units. This is vital for raising their Star Ranks.
- Eligma: A universal currency used to purchase Eleph for any student.
- Skill Materials: Various skill materials are available, helping you upgrade your students' skills.
Recommendation: Prioritize purchasing Eleph for your core PvP students to increase their Star Ranks, as this provides substantial stat boosts and unlocks their Unique Weapons.
Advanced Tips
- Scout Opponents: Before challenging, tap on the opponent's team to view their student lineup, levels, and gear. This allows you to tailor your team for a better counter.
- Observe Battle Logs: After a battle, review the battle log to understand what went right or wrong. Did your tank fall too quickly? Was your damage insufficient? This feedback is invaluable for adjustment.
- Adapt to the Meta: The "best" students and teams change with new student releases and balance adjustments. Keep an eye on community discussions and tier lists to stay informed.
- Don't Be Afraid to Experiment: Sometimes, an unconventional team composition can surprise opponents. Try different student combinations and see what works for your roster.
