Student Affection & Relationship System

In Blue Archive, nurturing your relationship with your students is not just a delightful pastime, but a crucial mechanic that unlocks significant gameplay advantages. The Affection System allows you to deepen your bonds with your students, leading to stat bonuses, unique stories, and even powerful EX Skill upgrades. Understanding and actively managing student affection is key to maximizing your squad's potential.

Understanding Affection Levels

Each student has an Affection Level, ranging from 1 to 100. As this level increases, you'll unlock various benefits:

  • Stat Bonuses: At certain Affection Level milestones (e.g., Level 5, 10, 20), students receive permanent stat boosts to their HP, Attack, and Healing Power. These bonuses are cumulative and significantly enhance a student's combat effectiveness.
  • Bond Stories: Reaching specific Affection Levels unlocks unique Bond Stories. These narrative events provide deeper insight into a student's personality, background, and motivations. Completing Bond Stories often rewards Pyroxene, a valuable currency for recruiting new students.
  • EX Skill Upgrades: Perhaps the most impactful benefit, increasing Affection Levels is a prerequisite for upgrading a student's EX Skill. Each EX Skill has multiple tiers, and reaching certain Affection Levels (e.g., Level 25, 35, 45) is necessary to unlock the subsequent upgrade tiers.
  • Lobby Interactions: Higher Affection Levels can unlock new dialogue options and special interactions when a student is set as your Lobby character.

How to Increase Affection

There are several reliable methods to increase your students' Affection Levels:

1. Gifts at the Cafe

The Cafe is your primary hub for direct Affection gains. Students will periodically visit the Cafe, and you can offer them gifts. Each student has preferred gift categories, and giving them a gift they love will grant a significantly higher Affection boost.

  • Gift Types: Gifts are categorized (e.g., "Cute," "Practical," "Luxury," "Hobby"). You can view a student's preferred gift categories by tapping on their profile in the Cafe or the Student Roster.
  • Acquiring Gifts: Gifts can be obtained through various means:
    • Shop Purchases: The General Store and Event Shops frequently offer gifts for purchase using Credits or event currencies.
    • Lesson Rewards: Completing certain Lesson stages can drop gift boxes.
    • Mission Rewards: Some Mission objectives and achievements reward specific gifts.
    • Total Assault Shop: The Total Assault shop often features high-value gifts.
  • Strategy: Prioritize giving preferred gifts to students you want to develop quickly, especially those whose EX Skills you aim to upgrade. Keep a diverse stock of gifts to cater to various student preferences.

2. Schedule (Lessons)

The Schedule system allows you to send students to various locations for "Lessons." These Lessons not only provide valuable materials but also increase the Affection of the students participating.

  • Location-Specific Bonuses: Certain Schedule locations might offer a slight bonus to Affection gain for specific student types or schools. While not a massive difference, it can add up over time.
  • Daily Limit: You have a limited number of Schedule slots per day, so choose wisely which students to send. Prioritize students who are close to an Affection Level milestone or those you are actively using in your main squads.
  • Strategy: Regularly check your Schedule and assign students. It's a passive but consistent way to gain Affection. Consider rotating students through the Schedule to ensure everyone gets some attention.

3. Moments (Story Events)

As you progress through the Main Story and various Event Stories, you'll encounter "Moments" where you can interact with students. Your choices in these dialogue options can sometimes influence Affection.

  • Dialogue Choices: Pay attention to the dialogue. Choosing options that align with a student's personality or express understanding and support will generally result in a small Affection increase. Incorrect choices typically yield no change or a minimal decrease.
  • Availability: Moments are tied to story progression and are not a repeatable source of Affection. However, they are a nice bonus when they occur.

4. Relationship Quests (Bond Stories)

While unlocking Bond Stories is a reward for increasing Affection, completing them can also provide a small, one-time Affection boost for the featured student. Always complete Bond Stories as soon as they become available.

Monitoring Affection

You can check a student's current Affection Level and progress towards the next level by:

  • Navigating to the Students tab from the main menu.
  • Selecting the desired student to view their detailed profile.
  • The Affection Level and progress bar will be prominently displayed.

Advanced Tips for Efficient Affection Building

  • Focus on Key Students: Initially, prioritize increasing Affection for your core combat students to unlock their EX Skill upgrades and stat bonuses as quickly as possible.
  • Gift Management: Don't hoard gifts indefinitely. Use them strategically. If you have a student who is just a few points away from a significant Affection milestone (e.g., EX Skill unlock), use a preferred gift to push them over the edge.
  • Cafe Rotation: Students in your Cafe will generate Cafe currency and occasionally offer opportunities for Affection gains. Rotate your Cafe students to ensure everyone gets a chance to visit.
  • Event Bonuses: Keep an eye out for special events that might offer increased Affection gains from specific activities or provide abundant gift items.

By actively engaging with the Affection System, you'll not only forge stronger bonds with your beloved students but also significantly empower your combat teams, making even the toughest challenges in Kivotos manageable.
