Enemies & Bosses

Navigating the treacherous environments of Boneworks requires a keen understanding of the threats you'll face. This section details common enemies and formidable bosses, offering strategies, weapon recommendations, and location insights to help you survive.

Common Enemies

Nullbody

The most basic and abundant enemy in Boneworks. Nullbodies are humanoid figures composed of void energy, often appearing in groups. While individually weak, their numbers can quickly overwhelm an unprepared player.

  • Appearance: Featureless, black humanoid figures with glowing red eyes.
  • Behavior: Primarily melee attackers, they will rush You and attempt to punch or grapple. Some variants can throw small objects.
  • Weaknesses: Headshots are instant kills. Any direct hit with a powerful weapon will stagger them.
  • Effective Weapons:
    • Pistols (e.g., 1911, Glock 17): Excellent for headshots at range. Keep a steady aim.
    • Melee Weapons (e.g., Crowbar, Axe): Effective for conserving ammo, especially against single targets or small groups. Aim for the head or chest.
    • Shotguns (e.g., Pump-Action Shotgun): Devastating at close range, capable of taking out multiple Nullbodies with a single blast.
  • Strategy:
    1. Prioritize Headshots: Always aim for the head to conserve ammo and dispatch them quickly.
    2. Environmental Awareness: Use environmental objects (crates, barrels) as cover or to create distance.
    3. Crowd Control: If facing a large group, consider using grenades (e.g., Frag Grenade found in the Warehouse level, near the conveyor belts) or the shotgun to thin their ranks.
    4. Melee Engagement: When engaging in melee, use the environment to your advantage. Back yourself into a corner to prevent being surrounded, or use a long-reaching weapon like the Longsword (found in the Museum exhibit, behind the medieval armor display) to keep them at bay.

Crablet

These arachnid-like creatures are fast, agile, and can inflict significant damage if they latch onto you. They are often found scurrying across floors and walls.

  • Appearance: Small, multi-legged creatures with a hard, chitinous shell and glowing red eyes.
  • Behavior: They will quickly close the distance and attempt to jump onto the player's head, obscuring vision and draining health rapidly.
  • Weaknesses: Their underside is vulnerable. A well-placed shot or melee strike can flip them over, exposing their weak point.
  • Effective Weapons:
    • Pistols: Quick shots can stun them or knock them off walls.
    • Melee Weapons (especially blunt objects): A strong swing from a Sledgehammer (often found in construction zones in levels like Rooftops) can instantly crush them.
    • Shotguns: Effective for clearing multiple Crablets in close quarters.
  • Strategy:
    1. Maintain Distance: Try to keep them at arm's length. If they jump, quickly swat them away with your hand or a light melee weapon.
    2. Look Down: When they latch onto your head, quickly look down and grab them with your free hand to pull them off. Then, either throw them or crush them.
    3. Environmental Hazards: Lure Crablets into environmental traps like crushing presses (e.g., in the Sewers level) or off high ledges.
    4. Stomp Them: If you knock a Crablet onto its back, quickly stomp on it to finish it off.

Bosses

The Monogon Core Guardian

The first major boss encounter, located deep within the Monogon Research Facility. This massive, automated defense system guards the facility's central processing unit.

  • Location: End of the Monogon Research Facility level, in the main Core Chamber.
  • Appearance: A large, spherical drone with multiple retractable laser turrets and a central energy core.
  • Attacks:
    • Laser Barrage: Fires a rapid succession of red laser beams.
    • Energy Pulse: Emits a wide-area energy pulse that deals damage and pushes You back.
    • Nullbody Deployment: Periodically deploys Nullbodies from its underside.
  • Weaknesses: Its central energy core is vulnerable when exposed. The retractable turrets can also be destroyed.
  • Recommended Loadout:
    • Assault Rifle (e.g., M4A1): For sustained fire on the core and turrets. Ensure you have at least 3-4 full magazines. (Found in the armory before the Core Chamber, or from defeated Monogon Security personnel).
    • Shotgun: For clearing deployed Nullbodies quickly.
    • Heavy Melee Weapon (e.g., Battle Axe): Useful for emergency Nullbody defense if ammo is low.
  • Strategy:
    1. Phase 1: Turret Destruction
      • The Guardian will initially keep its central core shielded. Focus on destroying its retractable laser turrets. Each turret requires sustained fire.
      • Utilize the pillars and crates in the arena for cover against the laser barrages.
      • When the Guardian deploys Nullbodies, quickly switch to your shotgun or a melee weapon to clear them before they become a distraction.
    2. Phase 2: Core Exposure
      • Once all turrets are destroyed, the Guardian's central energy core will become exposed. This is your primary target.
      • The Guardian will now rely more heavily on its Energy Pulse attack. When you see it charging, quickly find cover or jump to avoid the blast.
      • Unload your assault rifle into the exposed core. The core will briefly retract after taking significant damage.
      • Repeat this process, dodging pulses and firing into the core, until the Guardian is defeated.
    3. Environmental Advantage: There are several explosive barrels scattered around the arena. If Nullbodies are swarming, shoot these barrels when they are near to clear them out and deal splash damage to the Guardian if it's close enough.

The Void Horror

A grotesque manifestation of void energy, encountered in the desolate Void Fields. This boss is a test of agility and precise aiming.

  • Location: Deepest section of the Void Fields, within a large, open chamber with floating platforms.
  • Appearance: A large, amorphous mass of shifting void energy with multiple glowing red eyes and tendrils.
  • Attacks:
    • Void Tendril Slam: Slams large tendrils onto the platforms, creating shockwaves.
    • Void Orb Projectiles: Fires slow-moving, homing energy orbs.
    • Reality Warp: Briefly distorts the environment, making movement difficult and disorienting the player.
  • Weaknesses: The glowing red eyes on its body are its vulnerable points. Destroying them causes the Horror to briefly collapse, exposing a central, larger eye.
  • Recommended Loadout:
    • High-Capacity Pistol (e.g., P350): For quick, accurate shots on the smaller eyes. (Often found in weapon caches within the Void Fields, or dropped by advanced Nullbody variants.)
    • SMG (e.g., MP5): For sustained damage on the exposed central eye. Ensure you have at least 4-5 magazines. (Can be found in hidden alcoves in the Void Fields, requiring careful platforming.)
    • Energy Shield (e.g., Deflector Shield): Crucial for blocking Void Orb Projectiles and minimizing damage from tendril slams. (Usually found near the entrance to the boss arena.)
  • Strategy:
    1. Phase 1: Eye Targeting
      • The Void Horror will float around the chamber, attacking with tendril slams and void orbs.
      • Focus your pistol fire on the smaller glowing red eyes scattered across its body. Be precise; missed shots are wasted ammo.
      • Use the floating platforms to your advantage, constantly moving to avoid tendril slams and create better firing angles.
      • Block incoming Void Orbs with your Deflector Shield. If you don't have a shield, strafe and jump to dodge them.
    2. Phase 2: Central Eye Exposure
      • Once enough smaller eyes are destroyed, the Void Horror will momentarily collapse onto a central platform, exposing a large, pulsating red eye.
      • Immediately switch to your SMG and unload into this central eye. This is your primary damage window.
      • The Horror will initiate its Reality Warp attack during this phase. Try to maintain your bearing and continue firing.
      • After a short period, the Horror will reform, and you'll return to Phase 1. Repeat the process until it's defeated.
    3. Ammo Conservation: Ammo is scarce in the Void Fields. Only fire when you have a clear shot at an eye. If you run critically low, search the perimeter of the arena for hidden ammo crates, though these are rare.
