Walkthrough: American Campaign
Welcome, soldier! This detailed walkthrough will guide you through every harrowing step of the American Campaign in Call of Duty 2. Prepare for intense firefights, strategic maneuvers, and crucial objectives. Remember to always prioritize cover, conserve ammunition, and utilize your squadmates effectively.
Mission 1: The Battle of Pointe du Hoc
Objective: Secure the Bunkers
You begin on the landing craft approaching the beaches of Pointe du Hoc. As soon as the ramp drops, immediately sprint forward and take cover behind the first available obstacles, such as fallen debris or craters. The enemy machine gun nests are devastatingly accurate.
- Initial Push: Advance cautiously up the beach. Focus fire on the German soldiers manning the MG42 nests in the bunkers directly ahead. Use your M1 Garand for precision shots.
- Flanking Maneuver: Once you've suppressed the initial resistance, move to the right side of the beach. You'll find a path leading up the cliff face. Be wary of hidden German infantry in the trenches.
- Clearing the Trenches: As you ascend, you'll encounter a series of trenches. Use fragmentation grenades (press '4' to select, then left-click to throw) to clear out entrenched enemies before advancing. Look for ammo crates scattered throughout the trenches to resupply your M1 Garand and Thompson SMG.
- Bunker Assault: Your primary objective is to clear two main bunkers. The first bunker is located at the top of the initial trench system. Breach the entrance carefully, using your Thompson SMG for close-quarters combat. Expect heavy resistance inside. The second bunker is further inland, accessible after clearing the first. Repeat the breach and clear strategy.
- Weapon Scavenging: Keep an eye out for dropped Kar98k rifles and MP40 submachine guns from fallen enemies. These can be useful if you're low on your primary weapon's ammunition.
Objective: Destroy the Artillery Guns
After securing the bunkers, your next task is to neutralize the German artillery positions that are shelling the landing zones.
- Path to Artillery: Follow your squadmates through the devastated landscape beyond the bunkers. The path will lead you through more trenches and ruined buildings. Expect snipers in elevated positions; use your M1 Garand's scope (right-click) to pick them off.
- Artillery Site 1: The first artillery gun is located in an open area, often guarded by several German soldiers and a machine gun emplacement. Prioritize taking out the machine gunner first. Approach the artillery piece and plant the explosive charge (hold 'F' when prompted). Retreat to a safe distance before it detonates.
- Artillery Site 2 & 3: Continue pushing forward. You'll encounter two more artillery guns in quick succession. The terrain will offer more cover, but also more opportunities for enemy ambushes. Use your smoke grenades (press '5' to select) to obscure enemy lines of sight when crossing open ground.
- Final Stand: After destroying the last artillery piece, prepare for a counter-attack. German reinforcements will attempt to retake the area. Dig in with your squad and hold your position until the objective is complete. Utilize any remaining grenades and focus fire on advancing enemy waves.
Mission 2: Defending the Crossroads
Objective: Hold the Farmhouse
This mission places you in a defensive role, holding a crucial crossroads against a German assault.
- Initial Setup: You start inside a farmhouse. Immediately take up a defensive position near a window or doorway. Your primary weapon for this section should be the M1 Garand for its range and power, but keep your Thompson SMG ready for close-quarters breaches.
- First Wave: The first wave of German infantry will approach from the fields. Focus on headshots to conserve ammo. Watch for enemies attempting to flank from the sides of the farmhouse.
- Breached Defenses: After a few waves, the Germans will likely breach the farmhouse. Be prepared for close-quarters combat. Use your Thompson SMG or shotgun (if you've picked one up from a fallen enemy) to clear rooms.
- Resupply: There are ammo crates located on both floors of the farmhouse. resupply your M1 Garand and Thompson SMG during lulls in the fighting.
Objective: Repel the Tank Assault
The Germans will eventually bring in tanks to dislodge you from the farmhouse.
- Anti-Tank Weapons: Your squad will provide you with M1A1 Bazookas. These are crucial for destroying the tanks. You'll typically find them near the farmhouse's exterior walls or on the second floor.
- Tank Weak Points: Aim your Bazooka shots at the rear or side armor of the German Panzer IV tanks for maximum damage. A direct hit to the front armor is less effective.
- Prioritize Infantry: While engaging tanks, don't neglect the accompanying German infantry. They will try to suppress you while the tanks advance. Use your primary weapon to clear them out before focusing on the tanks.
- Strategic Retreat: If the farmhouse becomes too heavily contested, consider falling back to the next defensive line with your squad. Communication is key.
