Mission 14: The Last Stand

Welcome, soldier. This is it – the final push. "The Last Stand" is a brutal, high-intensity mission that will test everything you've learned. Expect heavy resistance and use every piece of cover. Remember, listen to your squad; they often provide crucial tactical cues. Dying is part of the process, learn from each attempt!

Initial Engagement: Securing the Courtyard

You'll begin under heavy fire in a war-torn courtyard. Your primary objective is to clear the immediate area and establish a foothold.

  • Weapons Check: Ensure you have a reliable assault rifle (like the M1 Garand or BAR) and a shotgun (M1897 Trench Gun) for close quarters. Ammo will be scarce, so make every shot count.
  • Advance Cautiously: Move forward with your squad, using the destroyed vehicles and rubble for cover. German soldiers will be entrenched in windows and behind sandbags.
  • Prioritize Snipers: Look for enemy snipers in the upper windows of the buildings to the North and East. Take them out quickly to reduce incoming damage.
  • Grenade Usage: Don't hesitate to use fragmentation grenades to flush out enemies from behind cover or clear out groups clustered together.
  • Checkpoint (CP): Once the initial courtyard is largely clear, you'll hit a checkpoint. Take a moment to reload and assess your position.

Pushing Through the Alleyways

After securing the courtyard, your squad will move into a series of narrow, debris-filled alleyways. This section is ripe for ambushes.

  • Flanking Maneuvers: If you find yourself pinned down, try to find an alternate route. Sometimes going left when you've been stuck on the right can open up a new angle of attack.
  • Watch for MG42 Nests: Several MG42 machine gun nests will be set up to cover the alleyways. These are high-priority targets. Use grenades or a well-placed headshot to neutralize the gunner.
  • Close Quarters Combat: Expect sudden enemy rushes. Have your shotgun ready for quick, devastating close-range engagements.
  • Ammo Resupply: Keep an eye out for fallen enemies or weapon crates. You'll often find additional ammunition for your primary weapons, especially the Kar98k and MP40 dropped by German forces.
  • Listen to Callouts: Your squadmates will often shout out enemy positions ("Enemy on the left flank!" or "Grenade!"). Pay attention to these warnings.

The Final Stronghold: The Church

The mission culminates in a fierce assault on a heavily fortified church. This is the "Last Stand" for both you and the enemy.

  • Breaching the Entrance: The main entrance will be heavily defended. Consider using smoke grenades to obscure enemy vision while your team advances, or focus fire on the most immediate threats.
  • Clearing the Nave: Once inside, the church nave will be swarming with German soldiers. use the pews and pillars for cover.
  • Upper Levels: Be aware of enemies on the upper balconies and in the bell tower. A well-aimed rifle shot can take them out before they cause significant damage.
  • Explosive Ordinance: You may encounter enemies with Panzerfausts. If you see a soldier aiming one, prioritize them immediately.
  • Defusing the Charges: Your ultimate objective is to defuse demolition charges placed within the church. Follow your objective markers. These are often located near the altar or in the crypts below.
  • Last Wave: Expect a final, desperate counter-attack once you begin defusing the charges. Hold your ground with your squad.
  • Mission Complete: Once all charges are defused and the final wave of enemies is eliminated, the mission will conclude. Congratulations, soldier!
