Mission Objectives & Briefings

Welcome, soldier! This section provides a comprehensive breakdown of each mission's objectives, offering detailed walkthroughs, strategic advice, and crucial item locations to ensure your success on the battlefield. Prepare for deployment on the Western Front!

Chapter One: Saint-Lô (U.S. Campaign)

Briefing: As Private Nichols of the 90th Infantry Division, your squad is tasked with securing the strategic town of Saint-Lô, a critical crossroads in the Normandy campaign. Expect heavy resistance from entrenched German forces. Your primary objective is to push through the town, neutralize enemy strongholds, and establish a forward operating base for the Allied advance.

Objective 1: Clear the Initial Street

  • Action: Advance cautiously down the initial street, Rue de la Poterie. German infantry will be positioned in windows of bombed-out buildings and behind sandbags and destroyed vehicles.
  • Strategy: Utilize cover effectively. The M1 Garand is excellent for medium-range engagements, allowing for precise shots. Prioritize enemies on upper floors and those operating machine guns. Keep an eye out for enemy machine gun nests, particularly the MG42s; these are priority targets due to their high rate of fire.
  • Item Location: A few Frag Grenades can be found near the overturned German Kübelwagen on the left side of the street, just past the first major rubble pile. Use them to flush out entrenched enemies or destroy light cover.
  • Tip: Stick close to your squad. They will provide covering fire and revive you if you go down. Listen for their callouts regarding enemy positions.

Objective 2: Secure the Church Courtyard

  • Action: After clearing the initial street and pushing through a narrow alley, you'll enter a courtyard leading to a heavily damaged church (Église Notre-Dame). Expect a strong counter-attack here from multiple directions.
  • Strategy: Prioritize the German soldiers on the church's upper levels and bell tower; they have a clear line of sight over the entire courtyard. A well-placed M1A1 Thompson burst can quickly clear out close-quarters threats once you enter the courtyard. Use the stone walls, overturned carts, and rubble for cover. Don't rush in; let your squad draw some initial fire.
  • Item Location: An MP40 can be picked up from a fallen enemy near the courtyard entrance, offering a good alternative for close-range combat, especially if you're running low on SMG ammo. Look for Medical Kits near the fountain in the center of the courtyard.
  • Common Pitfall: Don't get caught in the open. The courtyard is a kill zone if you overextend. Use the destroyed vehicles and low walls for cover.

Objective 3: Neutralize the MG42 Nest

  • Action: A formidable MG42 machine gun nest is suppressing your advance from a fortified position within a building overlooking the courtyard, specifically from a second-story window of the building directly opposite the church entrance.
  • Strategy: Flank the position. Look for a side alley or a damaged building (often indicated by a breachable wall or open doorway) that allows you to approach the MG42 from an unprotected angle. A well-aimed Frag Grenade or a coordinated push with your squad can eliminate the gunner. If you have a Molotov Cocktail (sometimes found on fallen enemies or in supply crates), it can be devastating against the entrenched gunner and surrounding infantry.
  • Item Location: Check the small shed or bombed-out storefront to the right of the church entrance for potential Smoke Grenades, which can provide crucial cover for your flank maneuver. An ammo crate with M1 Garand and Thompson ammunition is often found near the entrance to the flanking route.
  • Tip: Coordinate with your squad. They will often draw fire, allowing you to move into position. Once the MG42 is down, the German resistance in the courtyard will significantly weaken.

Chapter Two: The Bocage (Canadian Campaign)

Briefing: As Private Cole of the 4th Canadian Armoured Division, your unit is tasked with pushing through the treacherous Norman Bocage near Falaise. This dense network of hedgerows and sunken lanes provides ideal defensive positions for the German forces. Your mission is to clear out enemy strongpoints, secure key crossroads, and advance towards the next objective.

Objective 1: Clear the Initial Hedgerow

  • Action: Upon disembarking from your transport, you will immediately come under fire from German infantry entrenched within the thick hedgerows.
  • Strategy: The Bocage is a maze of natural cover. Use the hedgerows themselves, as well as craters and fallen trees, for protection. The Lee-Enfield rifle is your primary weapon for picking off distant enemies. Prioritize German soldiers operating MG42s or Kar98k rifles from concealed positions. Advance slowly, checking each section of the hedgerow for hidden enemies.
  • Item Location: Look for Medical Kits scattered near destroyed farm equipment and behind large oak trees. You'll need them, as enemy snipers are prevalent. A few Smoke Grenades can sometimes be found near abandoned Canadian supply crates.
  • Tip: Crawl or crouch when moving between sparse cover to minimize your profile. The enemy will often try to flank you through gaps in the hedgerows.

Objective 2: Neutralize the Anti-Tank Gun

  • Action: Advance inland towards a small farm complex where a German PaK 40 anti-tank gun is blocking the advance of Allied armor. This position is heavily defended by infantry.
  • Strategy: Use Frag Grenades to clear out the infantry guarding the approach to the farm. For interior clearing of the farm buildings, the Sten SMG or a captured MP40 will be effective. The anti-tank gun itself can be destroyed by planting an Explosive Charge (usually provided by your squad leader) directly on the gun's breech or by hitting it with multiple grenades. Watch for close-quarters ambushes inside barns and sheds.
  • Item Location: Inside the main farmhouse, you can often find a supply of Sten ammunition and sometimes a Webley Revolver. An Explosive Charge will be given to you by your squad leader, or found in a designated ammo crate near the objective.
  • Common Pitfall: Don't expose yourself to the anti-tank gun's firing arc. Approach it from the sides or rear, using the farm buildings for cover.

Objective 3: Secure the Crossroads

  • Action: The main objective is to secure a vital crossroads further into the Bocage, which will allow Allied armor to advance. Expect fierce resistance as you approach and attempt to hold this strategic point.
  • Strategy: The approach to the crossroads is often open in sections. Use the sparse vegetation and destroyed vehicles for cover. German snipers will be positioned in surrounding trees and elevated positions. A Lee-Enfield Sniper Rifle (if found or equipped) would be invaluable here for picking off distant threats. Once at the crossroads, establish defensive positions behind the stone walls and sandbags.
  • Item Location: Near the base of the crossroads, there's usually an ammo crate with various weapon types, including Rifle Grenades for your Lee-Enfield, which are excellent for clearing entrenched positions. Look for Medical Kits in the small guard post or ruined building at the intersection.
  • Tip: Once the crossroads is secured, you'll likely face a German counter-attack. Be prepared to defend your position against waves of infantry. Use your grenades wisely to break up enemy advances.

Chapter Three: The Black Baron (British Campaign)

Briefing: As Sergeant Doyle of the British SAS, your mission is to infiltrate a German-held village in the Ardennes, locate and destroy a critical fuel depot, and eliminate a notorious German tank ace known as "The Black Baron." Stealth and precision are paramount for this operation.

Objective 1: Infiltrate the Village Perimeter

  • Action: Approach the village under the cover of darkness. German patrols are active, and guard posts are strategically placed.
  • Strategy: Utilize stealth. The Sten SMG with a suppressor (if available) or a knife takedown is ideal for silent eliminations. Avoid direct engagements whenever possible. Stick to the shadows, use buildings and natural terrain for cover. Observe patrol patterns before moving.
  • Item Location: Look for Silenced Pistols (e.g., Welrod) in hidden caches or on specific enemy officers. Smoke Grenades can be useful for obscuring enemy line of sight if you need to move quickly across open areas.
  • Tip: Listen for enemy chatter. It can indicate nearby patrols or changes in their routes.

Objective 2: Locate and Destroy the Fuel Depot

  • Action: Navigate through the village, avoiding detection, to reach the main fuel depot, typically located on the outskirts or in a fortified industrial area.
  • Strategy: Once inside the depot area, identify the large fuel tanks or barrels. You will need to plant Satchel Charges (provided by your squad or found in a designated supply point) on these targets. Prioritize eliminating any guards directly overseeing the depot before planting the charges. Use the environment (e.g., forklifts, crates) for cover.
  • Item Location: Satchel Charges are usually found in a small shed or guardhouse within the depot complex. An MP40 or Kar98k with scope might be found on a German sniper in a watchtower, offering a good long-range option for clearing the area.
  • Common Pitfall: Triggering an alarm will bring heavy reinforcements, making the objective much harder. Try to remain undetected until the charges are set.

Objective 3: Eliminate "The Black Baron"

  • Action: After destroying the fuel depot, "The Black Baron" will emerge in his heavily armored Tiger I tank, leading a counter-attack. Your mission is to destroy his tank.
  • Strategy: This is a boss encounter. The Tiger I is heavily armored. You will need to use anti-tank weapons. Look for PIAT (Projector, Infantry, Anti-Tank) launchers or Panzerschrecks in designated weapon caches or on fallen German anti-tank teams. Aim for the rear or side armor of the Tiger I, as the front is almost impenetrable. Use buildings and rubble for cover, moving between shots to avoid the tank's main gun.
  • Item Location: PIATs are typically found in a ruined building or a supply truck near the area where the tank appears. Additional Anti-Tank Grenades (e.g., Gammon Bombs) might also be available. Look for crates containing Medical Kits and regular ammunition in the surrounding area.
  • Tip: The Baron's tank will often focus on your squadmates first. Use this to your advantage to flank and get clear shots. Be aware of accompanying German infantry that will try to protect the tank.
