Throughout the campaign, you will frequently encounter German Panzer IV tanks, especially during missions involving armored advances or defending positions. These tanks are impervious to small arms fire and can quickly decimate your squad if not dealt with effectively. Your primary method for destroying them will be anti-tank weapons or satchel charges.
Strategy:
- Utilize Anti-Tank Weapons: If available, a Panzerschreck or Bazooka is your best friend. Aim for the rear or side armor of the tank for maximum damage. It usually takes 2-3 direct hits to destroy a Panzer IV.
- Satchel Charges: In some missions, you'll be tasked with planting satchel charges. This requires getting close to the tank, which is extremely dangerous. Use smoke grenades to obscure the tank's vision and sprint to its side or rear. Plant the charge (hold interact button) and immediately retreat to cover.
- Flanking and Cover: Tanks have a limited turret traverse speed. Use this to your advantage by flanking them. Stay behind cover as much as possible, only exposing yourself to fire your anti-tank weapon.
- Prioritize Supporting Infantry: Tanks are often accompanied by infantry. Clear out the infantry first, as they can suppress you and prevent you from getting a clear shot at the tank.
- Explosive Barrels/Environmental Hazards: Look for red explosive barrels or other environmental hazards near the tank. Shooting these can cause significant damage or even destroy the tank.
Always be patient and wait for an opening. Rushing a tank without proper cover or an anti-tank weapon is a sure way to get killed. Coordinate with your squad, as they will often draw fire or provide suppressing fire.
