Enemy Types & Weaknesses
Navigating the treacherous landscapes of Black Ops III's RPG elements requires a deep understanding of your adversaries. This section details the various enemy types you'll encounter, their unique abilities, and crucial strategies to exploit their weaknesses, ensuring your survival and mission success.
Standard Infantry
These are your most common foes, but don't underestimate their numbers. They come in several variants, each posing a distinct threat.
- Riflemen: Equipped with standard assault rifles, they engage at medium range.
- Weakness: Headshots are highly effective. use the Drakon sniper rifle for one-shot kills from a distance, or the Vesper SMG for rapid takedowns in close quarters.
- Strategy: Prioritize eliminating them to reduce incoming fire. Use cover effectively and flank their positions with the Active Camo Cybercore ability for stealth takedowns.
- Shotgunners: Dangerous at close range, they can quickly down you with their powerful blasts.
- Weakness: Their slow movement speed and limited range make them vulnerable to ranged attacks. The KRM-262 shotgun, if you can get close, is ironically effective against them, but a better strategy is to maintain distance.
- Strategy: Keep your distance. Use the H.I.V.E. launcher to deploy proximity mines in their path, or the Gravity Spikes to clear groups if they get too close.
- Grenadiers: These enemies will flush you out of cover with grenades.
- Weakness: They often expose themselves when winding up a throw.
- Strategy: Listen for the distinct sound of a grenade being primed. Use the Combat Focus Cybercore to slow time and precisely eliminate them before they throw, or quickly reposition to avoid the blast.
Heavy Units
These formidable foes require a more tactical approach due to their enhanced armor and devastating firepower.
- Armored Troopers: Heavily armored infantry, resistant to conventional small arms fire.
- Weakness: Their head and exposed power cells (often on their back or chest) are critical weak points. Explosives are also highly effective.
- Strategy: Aim for headshots with high-damage weapons like the Dingo LMG or the Gorgon. Alternatively, deploy a War Machine grenade launcher or use the Annihilator specialist weapon for quick eliminations. The Heat Wave Cybercore can stun them, allowing for easy critical hits.
- P.A.W.N.S. (Powered Assault Weaponized Nanosuit): These hulking mechs are slow but pack a serious punch with their integrated heavy weapons.
- Weakness: The glowing core on their back is their primary weakness. Explosives and sustained fire from high-caliber weapons can also disable them.
- Strategy: Flank them whenever possible to target their core. The Blackcell rocket launcher is ideal for quickly stripping their armor. If you lack heavy ordnance, use the Rejack ability to reposition and get behind them for critical hits. The Kinetic Armor specialist ability can absorb their heavy fire while you close the distance.
Specialized Threats
These enemies possess unique abilities that can disrupt your tactics and require specific countermeasures.
- Revenants: Fast-moving, cloaked enemies that appear and disappear, often attacking from unexpected angles.
- Weakness: While cloaked, they are still visible as a shimmer. Explosives can force them out of stealth.
- Strategy: Listen for their distinct audio cues. Use the Vision Pulse specialist ability to reveal their exact location, even through cover. Shotguns like the Haymaker 12 are effective for quick, close-range bursts when they uncloak. The Scarab tactical grenade can also track and damage them.
- Warlocks: Psionically gifted enemies who can deploy energy shields and unleash devastating energy attacks.
- Weakness: When deploying or maintaining their shield, they are stationary and vulnerable to flanking maneuvers. Their head is also a critical weak point once the shield is down.
- Strategy: Use the Overdrive Cybercore to quickly get behind their shield. The Tempest specialist weapon can chain lightning between them and other enemies, bypassing their shield. Alternatively, use a Trip Mine or Shock Charge to disable their shield and then follow up with a powerful weapon like the Kuda SMG.
