Mission 10: Life

Welcome, Specialist, to the penultimate mission of the Black Ops III campaign. "Life" is a psychological gauntlet, testing your resolve and understanding of the game's narrative. Expect heavy resistance, mind-bending sequences, and crucial lore drops. This guide will navigate you through the fractured realities and intense combat encounters.

Objective 1: The Frozen Forest

You begin in a desolate, snow-covered forest. Your primary goal here is to locate the data core. The environment is disorienting, designed to make you question your surroundings.

  • Initial Path: Follow the faint light in the distance. The path is linear, but watch for environmental cues.
  • Enemy Encounters: Expect waves of Frozen Zombies. These are slower but more resilient than standard zombies. Headshots are key. Utilize your Tactical Rig: Overcharge to stun groups, making them easier targets.
  • Collectible - Data Log 10.1: As you approach a downed VTOL, look to its left side, near a frozen tree. This log provides critical backstory on Project Chimera.
  • Weapon Recommendation: The Dingo LMG is excellent for crowd control against the Frozen Zombies due to its high magazine capacity and decent damage. Pair it with the Quickdraw Grip for faster target acquisition.

Objective 2: The Data Core Anomaly

Upon reaching the center of the forest, you'll find a pulsating energy anomaly – the data core. Interacting with it will trigger a significant reality shift and a challenging combat sequence.

  • Activating the Core: Approach the glowing core and hold the interact button. Prepare for immediate combat.
  • Defensive Stance: The area will be swarmed by P.A.W.N. units and Warlords. Prioritize the Warlords, as their heavy weaponry can quickly deplete your shields. Use cover effectively; the fallen trees and rock formations provide ample protection.
  • Cybernetic Ability Usage: This is an ideal moment to deploy your Remote Hijack on the P.A.W.N. units. A hijacked P.A.W.N. can draw enemy fire and provide valuable suppressive fire.
  • Power-Up Location: During the fight, a Max Ammo drop will appear near the large central rock after approximately 60 seconds of combat. Conserve your special weapon ammo until this point if possible.

Objective 3: Navigating the Nightmare

After securing the data core, the environment will warp into a nightmarish version of previous mission locations. This segment is less about direct combat and more about environmental puzzle-solving and survival.

3.1 The Shifting Cityscape

  • Pathfinding: You'll find yourself in a distorted version of the Singapore Safe House. The path isn't always clear. Look for flickering lights or subtle environmental changes to guide you.
  • Stealth Section: Several Wraith units patrol this area. They are highly sensitive to sound. Utilize your Active Camo to bypass them unseen. If detected, a quick burst from your Pharo SMG can dispatch them, but avoid prolonged engagements.
  • Collectible - Data Log 10.2: In the "Safe House" section, check the desk in the room where you initially met Hendricks in Mission 1. It's easily missed amidst the visual distortions.

3.2 The Burning Trenches

The cityscape will transition into a hellish, burning trench network reminiscent of the early missions.

  • Enemy Type: This area introduces Incinerator Drones. These flying units deal significant fire damage. Target their glowing core for a quick kill. The Kuda SMG with an Extended Mag is effective here.
  • Environmental Hazard: Avoid the large pools of burning oil. They deal continuous damage and can quickly incapacitate you. Use your Repulsor Armor if you accidentally step into one to mitigate damage.
  • Key Item - Prototype Grenade: Before exiting the trenches, you'll find a single Prototype Grenade on a crate near the final exit point. This will be crucial for the upcoming boss encounter.

Objective 4: Confronting the Echo

The mission culminates in a confrontation with a manifestation of your past, the "Echo." This boss fight is a test of all your acquired skills and abilities.

  • Boss Mechanics: The Echo has three distinct phases, each requiring a different approach.
  • Phase 1: Defensive Barrier
    • The Echo is protected by a Kinetic Barrier. Standard gunfire is ineffective.
    • Strategy: You must use the Prototype Grenade you found earlier. Throw it directly at the Echo to temporarily disable its barrier. While the barrier is down, unleash all your heavy fire. The Gorgon LMG or a fully upgraded Haymaker 12 shotgun are highly recommended.
    • Enemy Support: During this phase, Corrupted Soldiers will continuously spawn. Use your Firefly Swarm to clear them out, allowing you to focus on the Echo.
  • Phase 2: Aggressive Assault
    • The Echo will become highly aggressive, teleporting around the arena and launching powerful energy blasts.
    • Strategy: Maintain distance and continuously strafe to avoid its attacks. Use your Chaos ability to disorient it, creating openings for sustained fire.
    • Weak Point: Its head is now exposed and takes increased damage. Aim for critical hits with a precision weapon like the Locus Sniper Rifle if you have it equipped, or burst fire from an ICR-1 Assault Rifle.
  • Phase 3: Final Stand
    • The Echo will retreat to the center of the arena, creating multiple Shadow Clones of itself.
    • Strategy: The clones are fragile but numerous. Use area-of-effect abilities like Concussive Blast or your War Machine specialist weapon to quickly eliminate them.
    • Identifying the Real Echo: The true Echo will have a slightly brighter glow or a subtle distortion effect. Focus all remaining firepower on it once identified. This is the time to activate any remaining specialist weapon charges or tactical abilities.

Once the Echo is defeated, the mission concludes, leading you directly into the climactic final chapter.
