Understanding the Gas & Circle Mechanics

Mastering the movement of the gas and the shrinking safe zones is paramount to securing a victory in Warzone. The gas is a constant threat, dealing increasing damage over time, and understanding its patterns and how to navigate it can give you a significant edge over the competition.

The Circle's Movement & Damage

The safe zone, or "circle," gradually shrinks throughout the match, forcing players into increasingly smaller areas. The gas outside this circle deals damage that escalates with each new phase. Early game gas is relatively forgiving, allowing for brief excursions, but late-game gas can down a fully plated player in mere seconds.

Early Game: The first few gas circles move slowly and deal minimal damage. This is your window to loot extensively, complete Contracts, and engage in early skirmishes.
Mid Game: Gas damage increases significantly. Prolonged exposure becomes dangerous. Prioritize staying ahead of the gas, especially if you're low on healing items.
Late Game: The final circles are brutal. Gas damage is extremely high, making even a few seconds outside the zone lethal. Positional awareness and quick rotations are critical.

Strategic Gas Play

Don't view the gas merely as a threat; it can be a tactical tool. Smart players use the gas to their advantage to flank enemies, control engagements, and secure advantageous positions.

Using the Gas for Rotations

Often, the safest path into the next circle isn't directly through the center. Consider rotating along the edge of the gas, using it as a protective barrier against enemies who are likely pushing from the center.

"Gas Play" Loadouts: If you plan on frequently playing the gas edge, consider carrying a Field Upgrade like a Gas Mask or even a Durable Gas Mask (a rarer variant). These provide temporary immunity to gas damage, allowing for deeper pushes into the toxic zone.
Vehicle Rotations: Vehicles like ATVs, Tac Rovers, or even Helicopters are excellent for fast gas rotations, especially when the circle is closing rapidly or you need to cover a large distance. Be mindful of their noise, however, as they can attract unwanted attention.

Gas Mask Management

The Gas Mask is a vital item for surviving in the gas. It has a limited durability, indicated by a bar above your health. Once depleted, it breaks, and you'll immediately start taking gas damage.

Conserve Durability: Avoid unnecessary gas exposure. If you have a Gas Mask, only activate it when absolutely necessary.
Listen for the "Cracking" Sound: A distinct cracking sound indicates your Gas Mask is about to break. This is your cue to exit the gas immediately or find a replacement.
Finding Gas Masks: Gas Masks can be found as ground loot, in Supply Boxes, or purchased from Buy Stations for a reasonable price. Always prioritize having one in your inventory, especially in the mid to late game.

Anticipating the Next Circle

While the exact location of the next circle is randomized, you can often make educated guesses about its general direction. Pay attention to the current circle's center and the remaining playable area. High ground and central locations are often favored by the game's algorithm.

Map Awareness: Constantly check your map to see the current and upcoming circle. Plan your rotations well in advance to avoid being caught in the gas.
High Ground Advantage: Securing high ground within the next circle is a classic Warzone strategy. It provides clear sightlines and makes it harder for enemies to push you.
