Explosives & Lethal Equipment
Lethal equipment in Warzone can be the difference between a clutch victory and an early trip to the Gulag. Mastering their use, understanding their nuances, and knowing when to deploy them can turn the tide of any engagement. This section dives deep into each lethal option, offering actionable strategies and tips for maximizing their impact.
Frag Grenade
- Description: The classic, cookable explosive. Its versatility makes it a staple for many players.
- Strategy & Tips:
- Cooking: Hold down the lethal button to "cook" the grenade. The longer you hold, the shorter the fuse after release. This is crucial for airbursts or preventing enemies from escaping the blast radius. A 2-3 second cook time is often ideal for flushing out entrenched opponents.
- Flushing Out: Throw Frags into buildings, behind cover, or into tight spaces where enemies are hiding. Even if it doesn't get the kill, it forces them to move, often into your line of fire.
- Area Denial: Use Frags to deny access to doorways, stairwells, or specific areas during a push or retreat.
- Vehicle Damage: While not as effective as Thermite or C4, a well-placed Frag can still damage vehicles, especially if it explodes directly underneath.
- Sound Cues: Listen for the distinct "clink" of a thrown Frag. If you hear it, be prepared to reposition or sprint away.
Semtex
- Description: A sticky grenade that attaches to surfaces, enemies, and vehicles, exploding after a short fuse.
- Strategy & Tips:
- Guaranteed Hit: The primary advantage of Semtex is its ability to stick. Aim for the enemy's body or a surface directly next to them for a near-guaranteed down or kill.
- Vehicle Annihilation: Semtex is incredibly effective against vehicles. Stick one to a moving vehicle for instant damage or a potential explosion. Two Semtexes will often destroy most light vehicles.
- Door Breaching: Stick a Semtex to a closed door to blast it open and potentially damage or down anyone on the other side.
- Anti-Shield: If an enemy is using a Combat Shield, sticking a Semtex to the shield or their body is an excellent counter.
- Quick Deployment: Unlike Frags, Semtex cannot be cooked, making it a faster deployment option for immediate threats.
Molotov Cocktail
- Description: A bottle filled with flammable liquid that creates a lingering area of fire upon impact, dealing damage over time.
- Strategy & Tips:
- Area Denial & Blocking: Molotovs excel at blocking pathways, denying entry/exit points, and forcing enemies to reposition. Throw them into doorways, stairwells, or around corners.
- Damage Over Time: The fire deals continuous damage, making it effective for finishing off weakened enemies or preventing them from healing.
- Flushing Out: Similar to Frags, Molotovs can flush enemies out of cover, especially in tight indoor environments.
- Post-Down Finishers: If you down an enemy but can't safely push for the finish, a Molotov can burn them out, preventing a revive.
- Vehicle Deterrent: While not as destructive as Semtex, throwing a Molotov in front of a vehicle can force it to slow down or change direction.
Throwing Knife
- Description: A silent, one-shot kill (to the head or upper chest) projectile that can be retrieved after use.
- Strategy & Tips:
- Finisher: The Throwing Knife is the ultimate finisher for downed enemies. It's quick, silent, and conserves ammo. Always aim for the head or body of a downed opponent for an instant elimination.
- Silent Kill: For stealthy plays, a well-aimed Throwing Knife can eliminate an unsuspecting enemy without revealing your position on the mini-map.
- Retrieval: Remember to pick up your knife after use. This allows for continuous silent eliminations.
- Melee Alternative: In close-quarters, if you're out of ammo or need a quick, silent kill, a Throwing Knife can be a surprisingly effective alternative to your primary weapon.
- Practice Aim: Mastering the trajectory and lead of the Throwing Knife takes practice, especially at range.
C4 (Plastic Explosive)
- Description: Remotely detonated explosives that can be thrown and stuck to surfaces, vehicles, or enemies.
- Strategy & Tips:
- Vehicle Destruction: C4 is arguably the most effective lethal for destroying vehicles. Throw two onto a vehicle for an instant explosion.
- Proximity Detonation: Throw C4 onto a wall or doorway, then wait for an enemy to pass by before detonating. This creates a deadly trap.
- "C4 Jump": While less prevalent in Warzone than in traditional multiplayer, you can still use C4 to gain a slight height boost by detonating it beneath you (be careful not to self-damage too much!).
- Anti-Push: If enemies are pushing your position, throw C4 at their expected entry points and detonate as they approach.
- Sound Cue: Be aware that enemies can hear the distinct "clink" of C4 being thrown and the beeping sound if it's stuck near them.
Thermite
- Description: A sticky incendiary grenade that attaches to surfaces and melts through armor and vehicles, creating a damaging fire effect.
- Strategy & Tips:
- Armor Shredder: Thermite is exceptional at stripping armor from enemies. A direct hit will often break all armor plates and deal significant health damage.
- Vehicle Incinerator: Like Semtex and C4, Thermite is highly effective against vehicles. It sticks and burns, quickly destroying them.
- Area Denial & Damage Over Time: Similar to Molotovs, Thermite creates a lingering fire zone, making it excellent for blocking pathways and dealing continuous damage.
- Anti-Shield: Thermite melts through Combat Shields, making it a strong counter to shield users.
- Door Breaching: Stick Thermite to a door to burn it open and damage anyone behind it.
