Understanding the HUD & UI Elements
Mastering Warzone's Heads-Up Display (HUD) and User Interface (UI) is crucial for survival and victory. This detailed guide breaks down every essential element, helping you process information faster and make smarter decisions in the heat of battle.
The Core HUD: Your Immediate Information Hub
Your HUD is your primary source of real-time data. Pay close attention to these elements:
- Compass (Top Center): Always visible, this indicates cardinal directions (N, S, E, W) and numerical bearings (0-359 degrees). Crucially, it also displays enemy pings, objective markers (like the Research Station in some modes), and teammate locations. Use it for precise callouts: "Enemy 270!" or "Teammate at 45, pushing."
- Mini-Map (Top Left): This dynamic map shows your immediate surroundings.
- Your Position: Represented by a white arrow, indicating your current direction.
- Teammates: Blue dots.
- Enemies: Red dots (if they fire unsuppressed weapons or are revealed by UAVs/Heartbeat Sensors).
- Loot & Objectives: Various icons for Supply Boxes, Buy Stations, Contracts, and active objectives.
- Gas Circle: A red boundary indicating the encroaching gas. The next safe zone is shown as a white circle. Always be aware of the timer!
Strategy: Frequently glance at your mini-map, especially when moving. It's your early warning system for flanking enemies and gas movements. A UAV or Advanced UAV will temporarily turn red dots into arrows, showing enemy direction – invaluable for aggressive pushes or defensive repositioning.
- Weapon & Ammo Display (Bottom Right):
- Current Weapon: Icon and name of your equipped primary or secondary weapon.
- Current Magazine Ammo: Rounds remaining in your active magazine.
- Total Reserve Ammo: Total rounds you have for that weapon.
- Lethal & Tactical Equipment: Icons for your selected grenades, C4, stims, etc., with their current count.
- Field Upgrade: Icon for your active Field Upgrade (e.g., Munitions Box, Dead Silence) and its charge status.
Strategy: Always be aware of your ammo count, especially before engaging. Reload behind cover! Knowing your equipment status helps you plan pushes or escapes.
- Health & Armor (Bottom Left):
- Health Bar: Your current health. If it's red, you're critically wounded.
- Armor Plates: Up to three segments representing your active armor. Each plate absorbs a significant amount of damage.
Strategy: Prioritize plating up immediately after any engagement. Three plates are always better than one. Listen for the distinct sound cue of a broken plate – it means you need to re-plate or disengage.
- Killfeed (Top Right): Displays recent kills, showing who killed whom and with what weapon.
Strategy: Use this to track enemy team wipes, identify dangerous players, or confirm if a threat has been eliminated. If you see your teammate's name in red, they've been downed or eliminated.
Interaction & Contextual UI Elements
These elements appear dynamically based on your proximity to objects or situations:
- Loot Prompts: When near an item (weapon, ammo, cash, armor plates), a prompt will appear showing the item's name and rarity.
Strategy: Quickly scan these prompts to prioritize valuable loot. Remember, Cash is king for Buy Stations, and higher rarity weapons often come with better attachments.
- Door/Ladder Prompts: "Open Door," "Climb Ladder," etc.
- Revive/Interact Prompts: When near a downed teammate or a Buy Station, the relevant interaction prompt will appear.
- Ping System (Contextual): By default, pressing the ping button (often D-Pad Left or a dedicated button) will contextually mark items, enemy locations, or general points of interest.
Strategy: Use pings constantly! "Ping for loot," "Ping for enemy," "Ping for destination." This is vital for non-verbal communication with your squad.
The Scoreboard & Team Information (Accessed via Map/Scoreboard Button)
While not always on screen, accessing the full map or scoreboard provides critical team and game state information:
- Team Roster: Shows your teammates' names, current health/armor status, and whether they are alive, downed, or eliminated.
- Kills/Assists/Damage: Your personal and team statistics.
- Cash: Your current cash balance, essential for Buy Station purchases.
- Contracts: Active contracts and their progress.
- Gas Timer & Next Zone: A larger, more precise view of the gas movement.
Strategy: Periodically check this screen, especially during lulls, to assess team health, plan Buy Station runs, and track contract progress. Knowing your teammates' health lets you decide whether to push or play defensively.
