Boss: Dario Bossi
Dario Bossi is a formidable foe who relies on powerful fire-based attacks. This battle can be challenging if you're unprepared, but with the right strategy and equipment, you'll extinguish his flames in no time.
Recommended Setup
- Weapon: A fast-hitting weapon is ideal for getting in quick strikes between his attacks. The Valmanway (if you've acquired it) is excellent, but any strong sword or dagger will suffice.
- Armor: Equip your best defensive gear. The Death's Robe or Dracula's Tunic are good choices if available.
- Souls:
- Bullet Soul: The Flame Demon soul is highly recommended for its fire resistance, significantly reducing damage from Dario's attacks. If you don't have it, consider the Merman soul for its water-based attack, which Dario is weak against.
- Guardian Soul: The Gorgon soul can be useful for petrifying Dario, giving you free hits, though its effectiveness can be inconsistent. Alternatively, the Buer soul provides a defensive barrier.
- Enchant Soul: The Succubus soul for HP absorption or the Ghost soul for MP regeneration can be helpful for sustained battles.
- Items: Stock up on High Potions and Super Potions. Mind Ups or Mind Exs might also be useful if you plan to rely heavily on magic.
Strategy
Dario has a limited but potent moveset. The key to victory is understanding his attack patterns and exploiting the openings they create.
Phase 1: Fire Pillars
Dario's primary attack involves summoning three pillars of fire from the ground. These pillars appear in a fixed pattern:
- One directly in front of him.
- One a short distance away.
- One further away, often near the edge of the screen.
Actionable Steps:
- When Dario raises his hand to summon the pillars, immediately move to the space between the first and second pillars. This is a safe zone.
- After the pillars dissipate, Dario will be vulnerable for a brief moment. Rush in and land a few hits with your weapon.
- Alternatively, if you have a long-range Bullet Soul like Flame Demon (for its projectile, not its fire resistance in this case) or Merman, you can attack from a distance while dodging.
Phase 2: Fire Wave
Occasionally, Dario will summon a large wave of fire that travels across the screen. This attack covers a wide area and can be difficult to avoid if you're caught off guard.
Actionable Steps:
- When you see Dario preparing this attack (he'll usually glow brighter and stand still for a moment), quickly move to the opposite side of the screen from him.
- The wave travels at a moderate speed, so you should have enough time to get clear.
- You can also use a Guardian Soul like Buer to absorb some of the damage if you can't fully avoid it, or use the Puppet Master soul to teleport behind him if you're quick.
General Tips
- Stay Mobile: Always be ready to move. Standing still for too long will make you an easy target for his fire pillars.
- Exploit Weakness: Dario is weak to water. If you have the Merman Bullet Soul, use it! It deals significant damage and can make the fight much quicker.
- Don't Be Greedy: After dodging his attacks, resist the urge to get too many hits in. Land 2-3 strikes and then prepare to dodge his next move. Patience is key.
- Healing: Don't hesitate to use your healing items. It's better to use a High Potion than to risk being defeated.
By carefully observing Dario's patterns and executing these strategies, you'll conquer the Flame Demon and continue your journey through the castle!
