Boss: Legion
Legion is a unique boss composed of a central core surrounded by a protective shell of bodies. Defeating it requires a strategic approach to dismantle its defenses and expose its vulnerable core.
Recommended Setup
- Weapon: A fast-hitting weapon like the Combat Knife or a strong long-range weapon such as the Valmanway (if you have it from a previous playthrough or lucky drop) is highly effective.
- Souls:
- Axe Armor (Bullet Soul): Throws an axe in an arc, useful for hitting the upper bodies.
- Great Armor (Guardian Soul): Increases your STR, boosting your damage output.
- Galamoth (Enchant Soul): Significantly boosts your INT, which is beneficial if you're relying on magic-based attacks.
- Succubus (Enchant Soul): Provides HP absorption from damage dealt, which can be a lifesaver.
- Armor: Equip the best defensive gear you have available. The Bloody Armor (if obtained) is excellent for its high defense.
- Items: Stock up on Potions, High Potions, and at least one Super Potion. Mind Ups can also be useful if you're spamming Bullet Souls.
Phase 1: Breaking the Shell
Legion begins as a large sphere of intertwined bodies. Your primary goal in this phase is to destroy these bodies to expose the core.
- Target the Outer Layer: The bodies on the outer layer will fall off as you hit them. Focus your attacks on a single section to create an opening.
- Melee Strategy:
- Stand close to Legion and continuously attack the bodies.
- When bodies fall, they will drop to the ground and then slowly float upwards. Avoid touching them as they inflict damage.
- Jump and attack to hit bodies higher up.
- Bullet Soul Strategy (Axe Armor):
- Stand a safe distance away and repeatedly use the Axe Armor Bullet Soul. The axe's arc is excellent for hitting multiple bodies, especially those above Soma.
- This strategy allows you to maintain distance and avoid contact damage from falling bodies.
- Watch for Projectiles: As you destroy bodies, Legion will occasionally fire small, white projectiles from its core. These are relatively slow and easy to dodge by moving or jumping.
Phase 2: Attacking the Core
Once enough bodies are destroyed, Legion's central core will be exposed. This is your window to deal significant damage.
- Prioritize the Core: The core is Legion's only weak point. Focus all your attacks on it.
- Melee Rush: Get close to the core and unleash a flurry of attacks. If you have a fast weapon, this is the most efficient way to deal damage.
- Bullet Soul Barrage: Continue using your chosen Bullet Soul (e.g., Axe Armor) to hit the core from a distance. This is safer but may be slower depending on your INT and weapon.
- Body Regeneration: Legion will slowly regenerate its body shell. You'll need to periodically re-destroy sections to keep the core exposed. Don't get discouraged; this is part of the fight.
- Dodge the Laser: When the core is fully exposed, Legion will occasionally fire a powerful, wide laser beam horizontally across the screen.
- Anticipate: The core will glow intensely before firing.
- Dodge: Jump over the laser if it's aimed low, or duck under it if it's aimed high. The laser is a significant threat, so prioritize dodging.
General Tips
- Movement: Stay mobile. Constantly move around to avoid falling bodies and projectiles.
- Healing: Don't be afraid to use your healing items. Better to heal and continue the fight than to be defeated.
- Soul Drops: Legion has a chance to drop the Legion (Bullet Soul), which fires a small cluster of bodies. It's a decent soul but not essential for this fight.
- Patience: This fight can be a war of attrition. Don't rush, and focus on consistent damage while avoiding hits.
By systematically dismantling its defenses and exploiting the core's vulnerability, Legion will soon fall, granting you passage to the next area of Castlevania.
