Introduction & Story Setup

Welcome, brave soul, to the year 2035. You are Soma Cruz, an ordinary high school student on a seemingly ordinary day. However, fate has other plans. As you and your childhood friend, Mina Hakuba, witness the first solar eclipse of the 21st century, you are inexplicably drawn into a mysterious castle – Dracula's Castle, to be precise. But this isn't the Dracula you know; this is a castle that has been sealed away since 1999, now inexplicably appearing within the eclipse itself.

You quickly discover a strange power within yourself, the "Power of Dominance," which allows you to absorb the souls of defeated monsters and wield their abilities. This unique mechanic, known as the Tactical Soul System, will be your primary means of growth and combat throughout your journey. Your goal: survive, understand your new powers, and find a way out of this nightmarish realm.

Initial Steps & Exploration

Upon gaining control of Soma, you'll find yourself in the Castle Corridor, a relatively safe starting area. Your initial objective is simple: move forward and familiarize yourself with the basic controls. Don't worry about backtracking just yet; the castle will open up significantly as you acquire new abilities.

Key Actions & First Encounters:

  • Movement: Use the D-Pad to move Soma.
  • Attack: Press the 'B' button to swing your default weapon, the Knife. This is your only weapon initially, so get used to its short range.
  • Jump: Press the 'A' button to jump.
  • Soul Absorption: After defeating an enemy, there's a chance they will drop a soul. Walk over it to absorb it. Your first soul will likely be from a Zombie.

First Soul: Zombie Soul (Bullet Type)

The Zombie Soul is your very first Bullet-type soul. Equip it immediately by navigating to the "Souls" menu. Once equipped, pressing the 'R' button will allow Soma to throw a short-range projectile. While not incredibly powerful, it's a useful ranged option against enemies that are difficult to approach directly.

Navigating the Early Castle Corridor:

  1. Proceed right from your starting point. You'll encounter your first few Zombies. Practice attacking and absorbing their souls.
  2. Continue right, past a few more enemies. You'll soon reach a room with a downward-sloping path.
  3. Descend this path. At the bottom, you'll find a Potion in a breakable candle. Always break candles and lamps; they often contain valuable items or money.
  4. Head left from the potion's location. You'll enter a new screen and encounter a Slime. These enemies are slow but can be annoying.
  5. Keep moving left. You'll find another breakable object containing a Heart, which is used to fuel your Bullet-type souls.
  6. Continue left until you reach a large, open room. Here, you'll meet your first non-hostile character, Genya Arikado.

Meeting Arikado & Plot Progression

Arikado will provide crucial exposition, explaining the nature of the castle and your unique power. He'll also give you a dire warning about the castle's influence and the potential dangers you face. Pay close attention to his words, as they set the stage for the entire narrative.

After your conversation with Arikado, he will open a path for you. This signifies your true entry into the castle's depths. Proceed through the newly opened doorway to continue your adventure.

From this point, the castle truly begins to unfold. Remember to experiment with your new souls, explore every nook and cranny, and prepare for the challenges ahead. The fate of the world, and perhaps your own soul, rests on your shoulders.
