Walkthrough: Arena
Welcome to the Arena, a challenging gauntlet of enemies designed to test your combat prowess. This area is linear but packed with formidable foes. Be prepared with healing items and your strongest souls.
Initial Ascent
Upon entering the Arena from the Clock Tower, you'll find yourself in a vertical shaft. Your primary goal is to ascend. Be wary of the following enemies:
- Killer Doll: These annoying enemies can inflict poison. Prioritize taking them out quickly.
- Gorgon: Their petrifying gaze is dangerous. Attack from a distance or use a soul that grants petrification resistance if you have one.
- Manticore: These flying beasts are agile. Use a strong upward attack or a projectile soul like the "Flame Demon" to deal with them.
Continue upwards until you reach a platform leading to the right.
The Gauntlet Begins
Proceeding right, you'll enter a long corridor. This section is a continuous battle. Don't rush, and manage your HP and MP carefully.
- Minotaur: These powerful brutes hit hard. Dodge their axe swings and counter-attack during their recovery frames. The "Axe Armor" soul can be useful here for its defense boost.
- Succubus: They cast spells and can be quite evasive. A ranged soul or a quick weapon is recommended.
- Great Armor: These heavily armored knights are slow but powerful. Get behind them if possible, or use souls that bypass defense.
Midway through this corridor, you'll find a breakable wall on the ceiling. Use an upward attack or the "Giant Bat" soul to reach it. Inside, you'll discover a valuable High Potion. This can be a lifesaver in the upcoming sections.
Upper Arena and Boss Prep
After the long corridor, you'll reach another vertical shaft, this time descending. Be cautious of the same enemies you encountered during the ascent. As you descend, keep an eye out for a hidden room:
- Hidden Room: On the left side of the descending shaft, about halfway down, there's a breakable wall. Inside, you'll find a Mana Prism, crucial for restoring your MP before the boss fight.
Once you reach the bottom of this shaft, head right. You'll find a save point. SAVE YOUR GAME HERE! This is your last chance before the boss. Make sure your equipment is optimized, and you have enough healing items.
Just past the save point, you'll encounter a room with a large, imposing door. This leads to the Arena's boss.
Boss Battle: Balore
Balore is a massive demon with powerful physical attacks. His main weakness is his eye. Here's a strategy:
- Phase 1: Ground Attacks
- Balore will primarily use a ground pound attack. He'll raise his arm, then slam it down. Dodge this by rolling under his arm or moving away.
- He also has a sweeping arm attack. Jump over this or roll through it.
- His eye will occasionally open. This is your window to attack! Use your strongest weapon and souls. The "Giant Bat" soul can help you reach his eye more easily.
- Phase 2: Eye Laser
- After taking some damage, Balore will start firing a powerful laser from his eye. This attack is telegraphed by his eye glowing intensely.
- When you see the glow, move quickly to the opposite side of the screen or use the "Giant Bat" soul to fly above the laser.
- Continue to attack his eye whenever it's open.
- Recommended Souls:
- Mandragora (Bullet): For consistent damage to his eye.
- Giant Bat (Ability): Essential for dodging the laser and reaching his eye.
- Succubus (Guardian): If you're low on HP, its HP absorption can be very helpful.
Upon defeating Balore, you will receive the Giant Bat soul (if you don't already have it) and the Balore soul. The Balore soul allows you to break certain barriers with a powerful punch, which will be vital for progression.
After the fight, continue right to exit the Arena and proceed to the next area.
