Glitches & Exploits
While Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow is a polished experience, a few quirks and unintended mechanics can be exploited to your advantage. These range from minor inconveniences to game-breaking sequence breaks. Use them wisely, or simply for fun!
Soul Duplication Glitch
This powerful glitch allows you to duplicate any Bullet, Guardian, or Enchant Soul, effectively giving you multiple copies of the same soul. This is incredibly useful for farming rare souls, creating multiple copies for different builds, or even selling excess souls for gold.
Requirements:
- One copy of the soul you wish to duplicate. You do NOT need two copies initially.
- Access to any Save Point.
- The ability to equip/unequip souls from your inventory.
Walkthrough:
- Equip the soul you wish to duplicate into its respective slot (Bullet, Guardian, or Enchant). For example, if duplicating the Red Minotaur Bullet Soul, equip it as your Bullet Soul.
- Go to a Save Point and save your game. This creates a save file where the soul is equipped.
- Unequip the soul you want to duplicate. Replace it with any other soul, or simply leave the slot empty.
- Go back to the Save Point and save your game AGAIN, overwriting your previous save. This creates a save file where the soul is UNEQUIPPED.
- Reload your game. When the game reloads, it will load the state where the soul was equipped (from step 2), but because you saved over that file with an unequipped state (from step 4), the game gets confused.
- Check your soul inventory. You should now have an additional copy of the soul you wished to duplicate in your inventory, while the equipped slot still holds the original.
- Repeat as desired. You can continue this process to generate as many copies as you need.
Strategy: This glitch is most effective for rare souls that have a low drop rate, such as the Red Minotaur (Bullet, for its high attack power), Great Armor (Guardian, for its defense boost), or Succubus (Enchant, for HP absorption). It's also excellent for generating souls to sell for gold, especially if you duplicate high-value souls like the Manticore (Bullet) or Galamoth (Bullet) once you acquire them. This can quickly fund all your purchases from Hammer.
Common Pitfalls: Ensure you are overwriting the correct save file each time. If you accidentally save on a new slot, the glitch will not work. The key is to save with the soul equipped, then save over that *same* slot with the soul unequipped, and then reload.
Wall Clip/Out of Bounds Glitch (Early Game)
This glitch allows Soma to clip through certain walls, potentially skipping sections of the castle or reaching areas prematurely. This particular method is useful for early-game sequence breaking, allowing access to later areas or powerful items far earlier than intended.
Requirements:
- The Axe Armor soul (Guardian type). This soul is dropped by Axe Armors, commonly found in the Castle Corridor and Chapel. Its ability allows Soma to stand firm against attacks.
- The Giant Bat soul (Bullet type). This soul is dropped by Giant Bats, found in the Castle Corridor, Study, and Underground Reservoir. Its ability allows Soma to transform into a bat and fly.
Walkthrough:
- Acquire both the Axe Armor (Guardian) and Giant Bat (Bullet) souls. The Giant Bat soul is usually one of the first Bullet souls you'll find. Axe Armors are plentiful in the early game.
- Locate the specific wall section. A common and highly effective early-game spot is in the Castle Corridor, specifically the long vertical shaft leading down from the first Save Room (the one near the entrance to the Chapel). Descend this shaft until you reach the very bottom, where there's a small room with a single Zombie. The wall to the right of this room, just before the entrance to the Study, is the target. There's a slight protrusion or corner here.
- Equip the Giant Bat soul as your Bullet Soul and the Axe Armor soul as your Guardian Soul.
- Position Soma: Stand as close as possible to the right-hand wall in that small room, facing right. You want to be almost inside the wall.
- Activate the Giant Bat soul (press B). Soma will transform into a bat and gain flight.
- Immediately after activating the bat, quickly activate the Axe Armor soul (press R). The Axe Armor soul's activation animation, combined with the bat transformation, can sometimes push Soma slightly into the wall.
- While partially in the wall, try to move around. You'll need to experiment with the precise timing and angle. If done correctly, Soma will clip through the wall and appear in an "out of bounds" area.
- Navigate Out of Bounds: Once out of bounds, you can fly using the Giant Bat soul. You'll be able to bypass entire sections of the castle. For instance, from this spot, you can fly upwards and right to access the Dance Hall much earlier, or even fly downwards to reach parts of the Underground Reservoir and Forbidden Area.
Strategy: This glitch is highly situational and requires precise timing and positioning. Experiment with different wall sections, but the described location in the Castle Corridor is a reliable early-game target. Successfully performing this can allow you to reach areas like the Dance Hall (where you can acquire powerful equipment like the Broadsword or the Axe, and the Gargoyle soul for extra strength) or even parts of the Underground Reservoir (for the Merman soul or Undine soul) much earlier than intended, potentially acquiring powerful equipment or souls before their normal progression. This can significantly speed up a playthrough or grant an early advantage.
Common Pitfalls: The timing is crucial. If you activate the Axe Armor soul too late, Soma won't clip. If you activate it too early, the bat transformation might not have fully initiated. Practice in the specific location to get the feel for it. Also, be aware that flying too far out of bounds can sometimes lead to falling through the map, requiring a reload.
Infinite Money Glitch (Late Game)
While not strictly a "glitch" in the sense of breaking game mechanics, this is a highly effective exploit for generating infinite money in the late game, allowing you to purchase anything from Hammer's shop without worry. It leverages the power of a late-game soul combined with efficient movement and enemy respawns.
Requirements:
- The Galamoth soul (Bullet type). This is a rare drop from the boss Galamoth in the Chaotic Realm (only accessible after defeating the "bad" ending boss, or in New Game+). Its ability fires a massive, screen-clearing beam.
- The Black Panther soul (Guardian type). Dropped by Black Panthers, found in the Underground Reservoir and Forbidden Area. Its ability allows Soma to dash quickly.
- Access to Hammer's shop (located in the Castle Corridor).
- A decent amount of MP and preferably some MP regeneration (e.g., Succubus soul, Chaos Ring).
Walkthrough:
- Acquire the Galamoth soul. This is the most challenging part, as Galamoth is a tough boss and his soul drop rate is low. Persistence is key.
- Equip the Galamoth soul as your Bullet Soul and the Black Panther soul as your Guardian Soul.
- Go to an area with a high density of weak, easily defeated enemies that drop gold. Excellent locations include:
- The long vertical shaft in the Castle Corridor, just after the first Save Room. This area has numerous Zombies and Peeping Eyes.
- The early sections of the Chapel, particularly the rooms with multiple Zombies and Skeletons.
- The Underground Reservoir, specifically the long horizontal corridors with Mermen.
- Activate the Black Panther soul (press R) to dash through enemies. This allows for incredibly fast traversal of rooms.
- While dashing, constantly use the Galamoth soul (press B). The Galamoth soul fires a massive, screen-clearing beam that often hits multiple enemies simultaneously. Its range and power are unparalleled.
- The "exploit" comes from the synergy: The Galamoth soul's MP cost is very high, but its efficiency at clearing rooms is so great that the small gold drops from numerous enemies quickly accumulate. With the Black Panther soul, you can clear entire screens in seconds, moving from one group of respawning enemies to the next.
- Manage your MP: If you have the Succubus soul (Enchant, absorbs HP as MP) or the Chaos Ring (significantly boosts MP regeneration), your MP will often regenerate faster than you can spend it, making the process truly infinite. Even without them, the gold collected will easily allow you to buy Mana Prisms or High Potions from Hammer to sustain your MP.
- Repeat indefinitely: Clear a few rooms, collect the gold, then exit and re-enter the area to respawn enemies. Rinse and repeat.
Strategy: This method is less about a "glitch" and more about abusing the sheer power of the Galamoth soul combined with efficient movement. With enough MP and a few MP restoring items, you can clear entire sections of the castle in seconds, accumulating vast sums of gold. This is perfect for buying all of Hammer's rare items, such as the Soul Eater Ring (increases soul drop rate), the Chaos Ring (massive MP regeneration), or any expensive equipment you desire. It also allows you to max out your item inventory with restorative items for challenging boss fights.
Recommended Loadout for Efficiency:
- Bullet Soul: Galamoth
- Guardian Soul: Black Panther
- Enchant Soul: Succubus (for MP absorption), or Skeleton (for luck to get more gold/items), or Ghost (for MP regeneration).
- Accessory 1: Chaos Ring (if obtained, for infinite MP) or Soul Eater Ring (for more soul drops to sell).
- Accessory 2: Gold Ring (increases gold drop rate) or another Soul Eater Ring.
This setup maximizes both gold generation and sustainability, making the process incredibly fast and efficient.
