Castlevania: Bloodlines offers two distinct protagonists, each with unique abilities and playstyles. Your choice will significantly impact your approach to the game's challenges.
John Morris: The Vampire Hunter
- Weapon: Vampire Killer Whip.
- Abilities: Can swing the whip in multiple directions (up, down, diagonally) while jumping. Can also perform a powerful 'Whip Spin' by holding the attack button, which offers temporary invincibility and hits multiple times. Can swing from ceilings and certain platforms using his whip.
- Playstyle: More traditional Castlevania gameplay. Excellent for crowd control and reaching distant enemies. His whip swing allows for unique platforming and strategic positioning.
Eric Lecarde: The Dhampir
- Weapon: Alucard Spear.
- Abilities: Can perform a high 'Spear Vault' jump by holding the attack button, reaching higher platforms and dealing damage. Can also perform a 'Double Jump' by pressing the jump button again in mid-air.
- Playstyle: More agile and vertical. His double jump and spear vault make him adept at navigating complex platforming sections and reaching enemies above or below him. His spear has a shorter range than John's whip but can be very precise.
Consider your preferred playstyle. If you enjoy classic whip-based combat and strategic platforming, John is your man. If you prefer agility, verticality, and precise attacks, Eric is an excellent choice. Both characters are viable for completing the game, but their strengths and weaknesses will shape your experience.
